Lapping Scope Rings--Mounts??

How many of our members lap their scope rings when mounting a new scope?
What's is the process and theory behind lapping??

Both of these took a lot to get them smooth, they were very tight on the sides and one was very low in the front. burris xtreme tactical rings 30mm

I have only used Caldwell's it works not sure if it is the best but it works. I have done all of my rings ever since I had my scope slide in the rings on a 243.

I lap all my scopes, much like in the video, but I will check my mounts from now on and bed them if needed. Thanks Jim for the video.
