Lapua worth it?

I am relatively new to reloading, and have been reloading .223 for my Savage Model 10 and an AR. I had no brass when I started, and bought new Hornady brass for the AR, and Lapua for the Savage. I just acquired a Savage in 22-250, that I plan on using for prarie dogs. I just priced 22-250 Lapua brass on Grafs and all I can say is WOW.
I really like the .223 Lapua brass. To me it's much better than even the Hornady. I have never had to discard any Lapua brass, and I think I will get many more reloads out of it. Do you guys think it's worth the money? Do you really get what you pay for? Do you think I can get more accuracy out of the Lapua?

It's just my personal opinion,,, Unless you are shooting benchrest competitions, I don't think that the Lapua is worth the cost as it relates to accuracy...

I don't load 'hot' or max loads and get quite a few reloads out of the majority of my brass...As long as I apply good prep practices, I get pretty good accuracy as well, on a consistent basis....

I shoot a lot of AR rounds and quite a few bolt action rounds and have approximately 3,000 rounds of brass to work with, not counting what I already have loaded in reserve...I certainly couldn't afford to obtain that much of Lapua...If I were using Lapua, I would be too concerned about where my brass was going to enjoy shooting...

I am going to have to agree with Senior Turtle.

I just do not see there being a point to spending the money on Lapua. I am able to get under .5 5 shot groups using RP for my AR in .223. I am not saying that RP is better because frankly I have never shelled out the money for Lapua.

However I am not shooting in competitions nor do I plan to.

Just out of curiosity what caliber are you shooting?

Especially if you are not a top end bench shooter.

I have this buddy who does not mind using the old standbys such as RP, Winchester's, FC etc. for the smaller caliber's. However when it come to his 7mm or .308 he sure seems to prefer the more expensive stuff. Not sure why but.

Lapua and Norma brass is better, but you will not see it unless with a good total shooting system.

Unless you are really serious it is a waste of money.

Some say there is better longevity on the primo stuff. I'm not sure. Proper case prep/care will make your brass last a very long time. I don’t like to load too hot, either. I'm not sold on the expensive brass, yet that is...

Given the last batch of Lapua 308 Win brass I purchased,
I am not sure it isn't just a plain waste of money, even
if one is chasing accuracy. Weight was all over the
place. At least I don't have to de-burr the flash holes.

just curious, what was your largest variation???
out of all my 260 brass the greatest spread was .5, i know some who sort it to .3 and others don't care... its already annealed, and i'm on my 3X fired out of my first box of 100 that i got two weeks ago... i'm gonna see how many reloads i can get out of this spendy stuff as compared to my old rem brass.

NO they are not! However sometimes that is all you can get. 6MM BR for example. Or Norma which is even more expensive. If Winchester would make a genaric BR cartridge with a small primer, say in 6mm, then people coud neck up to 7mm or Cal 30, or down to Cal 22. I would certainly buy it.

Ive got some Lapua 22-250 here...and Remington. I buy brand name products the cheapest place I can. Luckily the internet applys be to p[rice check and I have to say Ive NEVER purches anything from Grafs because I could always get it cheaper somewhere else.

Some of my stockpile it once fired....Know why? virgin brass AT TIMES could set me back $12.20 for 20. FACTORY AMMO at the same times was costing me $12.45 a box of 20. See what Im getting at?

I buy brass or ammo from Bruno's or Sportsmans Guide or from Bud's Gun shop and a couple of places Id have to go and look up in my directory.

I guy from the cheapest at the time.

I reload for 6.5-284 and Lapua is the only answer for me. Norma costs more, Hornady is not that good, and converting Win 284 to 6.5 is easy but sometimes it springs back to 284 before firing. Nosler makes some ammo that can run in excess of $2/ bullet. For .223 I use a lot of FED brass which I pick up after the LEO's use our range.

Only ever bought one box of Lapua brass and it was absolutely no better than WW or most other "standard" brands. In fact I still have 53 of the original box of 100 (30-06) cases that I didn't feel were worth the effort to do the case prep on.

May not be the case with all calibers or all lots, but I was less than impressed.

Bruno's has it for .89 cents each and you can buy 1000; 500 or individual. I bought mine there back in Feb and it was 61 cents each!!!!

Winchester from the same place is 44 cents each!!!
