LAR Grizzly

Anybody know what happened to LAR-Grizzly? I was hoping to have DTECH build an upper for me using an LAR OPS-4 side charger upper receiver. Nobody seems to have LAR upper receivers for sale, and their website is down.

Thanks

They were bought out by the freedom group, which is the company who owns Remington in November. Then came Sandyhook craziness and the freedom group considered ending all AR manufacturing. I called the LAR office a while back (january) they are still cranking out milspeck uppers and lowers, but they told me that they had no idea about if our when they will make a new batch of ops-4s.

You will no longer be able to by direct, they closed down their little showroom and they will only ship to FFL accounts.

I have been looking for an ops-4 stripped upper for 3 months. I final bought one on Gunbroker but I had to pay way more than retail. ( Almost double, but I really wanted one). Some stripped ops -4 uppers i was watching sold for $800-900, 3X normal retail.

There are a few built ops-4 rifles for around $1800 on the classifieds and gun broker.

Joebobsoutfiters.com is a sponser here and is awesome to work with. Get on his email list for notification when (if) they come in and then buy it as fast as you possibly can!

Good luck and welcome to Predator Masters

When I talked to LAR a few weeks ago to get a replacement charging handle for my Ops-4 they said they highly doubt anymore would be produced as FG did not think they were in demand enough to justify runing those vs standard.

That's the buzz I'm hearing as well. The problem is that people don't realize how much better a platform they are for almost all scoped AR. If people knew they would be in even higher demand, and they might make them again. I would like another but I am still smarting from what I had to give for the ops-4 stripped upper I just bought at action!

Yeah I have a few I've been tempted to sell just because of the crazy prices they bring on GB. I have been stocking up when I see them availible.

The LAR Grizzly OPS-4 Side Charge Uppers are still being produced by LAR Grizzly, per our sales rep on 3/19/13.

The holdup is the BCG's, like most companies are running into. They haven't received a batch of bolts in over 90 days, which has caused no uppers to be on the market in that time frame.

If it was the same "new guy" I had talked to a few months back it wouldn't surprise he wasn't in the loop. He was a bit out of it

.

We always work with Zac, and have for the last 3 years. He's pretty squared away and knows a ton about both the supply lines and product side of the house.

Joseph,

Did you get the impression they are going to be shipping stripped uppers when they get the BCG thing sorted or are they going to focus on complete uppers?

I was in the same boat, attempting to purchase a side charging upper.. I contacted them directly via phone and e mail and was prompted to their distributors ... I was left with the impression they are still being produced... I ultimately went a different route for a side charging upper.. They can be the absolute best product in the AR world but if they remain unaccesable and the remainder are being scalped on GB you have to go elsewhere ...

We typically only stock their "stripped" OPS-4 uppers. All their "stripped" uppers come with a BCG and charging handle. We don't really stock the OPS-4 complete uppers. The OPS-4 uppers are favorites with builders, so most prefer to piece it together themselves.

Very very few companies make their own BCG's. LAR gets that particular BCG from Young Machine, and then outsource the Nickel Boron process. They used to apply a hard-chrome finish to the BCG, but since Nov '12 or so they started using Nickel Boron.

Thanks Joseph.

My last upper was on a Mega side charger w/ a YM S/C BCG. I'd like to do another and the OPS4 looks really attractive.
