Late season squirrel calling

I am new to trying to call in squirrels with a squirrel call and wonder if they are used in early season or all the way through late season squirrels?
I just received a call and would like to get out and try it.
Your experience will be appreciated
 
My experience is that they work to draw one from the back of a tree or to show its face. It scares them when I used it but freezes them long enough to grab a shot. It doesn't work like a turkey call where the come running to you
 
yea no doubt. During archery, they will literally climb the same tree as me and creep up within 5 feet of me. When I grab the .17 and head out for small game, they are nowhere to be found.

lol! i usually start off with a few shaker chatters then wait 5 minute. NEVER do the bark until you make a visual on the squirrels. barks will send them into a frenzy and if you dont keep an eye on them they will frenzy the opposite way
