Sorry it's been so long since I've posted on here. Too many things going on and my PC fryed lost all my data and I had to get a new PC.

I was reading about the LBL hunt and wanted to tell you all about something I found out this year. Some of you might remember we have a TnDeer.com Opening Day Deer Hunt at LBL every year. Well I had 3 other people with me the day before the season opened and we were scouting. Coming back to Piney Campground in the Tn side we spoted what we thought was a coyote in a cut field less than 40 yards from the road. We watched it though our bincos and took several pictures with digital cameras. We all talked about it might be one of the largest coyotes we ever saw east of the Miss River. But something just didn't look right, the more we looked the more we wondered if it was a coyote then someone said it might be a Red Wolf. Right then it hit me, he was right that was a Red Wolf. Some people have never beleived Red Wolves were in LBL but several people a year report seeing them. Later we took the camera to the Tn check station which was 1/4 mile from where we saw the wolf and showed the pictures to two of the people that worked there and they said yes that was a Red Wolf. They marked it on their map and wrote a report.

I forgot to ask them if it was legal to shoot a Red Wolf during the Feb coyote hunt since in the heat of the hunt it could be easy to mistake one. Someone needs to find out, I never thought about it last year since it had been over 10 years since I had seen one. If I think about it I'll stop by the Welcome Station to find out.

I'll try my best to make it to the LBL hunt this year. I doubt I'll be able to take anything since certain people will be using my secert call from last year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd like to hook up with you sometime before the hunt. Maybe You can help me with figuring out those travel patterns up there. As for secret calls I have one of my own /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As for the red wolf issue, they cross far to readily with coyote's and the coyote problem is getting to be such in the LBL I don't think it would matter what was killed by mistake or otherwise since the two are so similar. The two biologistt will certainly be on it if they think there is one or more. If I can find their e-mail addies I'll get in touch and see what's up. Jimmie

I'd like to hook up with you sometime. Now that the gun hunts are over I might go up there this week to do some bowhunting and might stop by the offices and talk to them.

I agree with you that there are too many coyotes in LBL. I know of several people that have reported to have seen them runnig deer this season and it looks like the coyotes won enough races to make the deer herd start to feel it. The turkeys have been hit for years.

As soon as I can get my schedule worked out for the next few weeks I'll let you know. Hopefully we can do this soon. I also sent an e-mail to Steve Bloemer on the wolf issue. should have an answer next week sometime. Jimmie

I was one of the People that was with Deerhunter up at LBL that particular day, And I saw the Red Wolf.

I would have to say it was an amazing sight.

We have them here where I live up in the MTNS, but i haven't seen any.

I will probably come with my dad (jimmie in ky)maybe i will learn a few things from you that my dad doesnt know about before the hunt in FEB.

Don’t let ol’ dad sandbag you too much…….. he knows his coyotes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

And Jimmie,

Deerhunter and Mark... good to see you all on board. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Good luck my friends...

Well evidently the bait don't smell right or somethin'. I've yet to call a coyote when he's along. I did get them talking to me saturday and he got to hear that for himself for the first time. He started in right quick wanting one of those Ky special calls. I even got a challenge bark out of it but could'nt get him in. Maybe some of Waynes chili might sweeten him a bit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Jimmie

Also have news from the LBL biologist. All of hte red wolf sightings they've been able to check on turned out to be large red male coyote's. In this color phase they would be easily mistaken as a red wolf. The only two wolves in the LBL are at the nature center in captivity.

So if it even resembles a coyote it's a target. Jimmie
