LC Match brass

A buddy just gave me 39rds of .308 ammo. The brass is marked Match LC, 57, 58, & 59. Korean War stuff I guess. But the bullets are softpoints and the primer pockets aren't crimped. So I'm assuming it's been reloaded? I don't plan on shooting this stuff. I plan on pulling the bullets, dumping the powder and depriming. But is the brass worth salvaging? Any experience with this?

LC Match .308 brass is good stuff. Hang onto it. As I remember it has a little less case capacity that Winchester or Remington commercial brass so you may need to adjust accordingly.

You can shoot it, no problem. LC Match is about as good as it gets. Always has been great brass, some years better than others, but all good. I don't know about those years but would bet it is better than any commercial stuff at the time.

Because of age hardening, you should anneal the brass before resizing.

Jack, I'm a newbie to all this internet stuff so I hope this works. You mentioned to OkieDigger that he ought to anneal his Lake City brass before he resizes it. I would like to know how to go about doing this and at what age a person would consider doing this to their brass. I have a DPMS .308 LR and last year I acquired 5 gallons of already primed Lake City .308. I do not know the age of said brass nor do I know how to tell it's age. The fellow that I traded for the brass has gone to hunt yotes on that great big prairie in the sky. I know it's really good stuff and would like to use it. dedogs in Mont.

Dedogs,

To anneal the cases your gonna have to remove the live primer from them.

Just shoot them and consider annealing them on the next go round.

As far as the annealing process goes- there are a bout a dozen different ways to do it. You tube has a few videos.

1stpitch, Thanks for the info. After your post I decided to take a look in this bucket I acquired and discovered that there are several types of brass in it--all .308,some primed some not. Also several hundred .30 FMJ of as yet unknown weight were at the bottom of the bucket. First off I want to say that in no way do I think the guy I got this stuff from ripped me off or intentionally deceived me on the trade. He was a good friend who was having severe memory problems before he left us. Okay 'nuff said about that. These are the headstamps I have: 200 LC--58 to 69, mostly 69. 250 WCC & WRA mostly mid 60's. 200 TW appears to be mostly 69. 50 IVI? appears to be all 69. 50 Win Super-X which I assume is crap compared to the Lake City stuff. 50 misc. of all the above. When I traded for this stuff I was told that it was sized, primed and ready to go. Since not all of it is primed I guess I'm going to have to check all the ones that are NOT primed and see if they've been re-sized. Any way I'm wondering which of this stuff I should worry about annealing as John mentioned. It's all been cleaned up and polished nicely so I'd like to know. Not afraid to do the work to make this stuff shootable but will have to wait until summer as I don't want it to inerfere with killin' dogs. Can anyone help? dedogs in Mont.
