The theory is good but the quality of the optics is not as good as other scopes in that price range. It is much easier to use a range finder along with a Leupold target scope in my opinion. Most of these type of scopes work within a velocity range. If you load does not fall into that area it will be off. Also, large targets are be hit using this type of system but pinpoint accuracy may not be there with the load you are using.

Dave, when it comes to reticle ranging, any reticle with at least 2 stadia in it can be used as a ranging tool with the same degree of accuracy by applying the "modified mil-ranging formula" as described in this discussion we had on 24 hour campfire forum--

Just yesterday i went out with a buddy of mine that's usung a mil-dot reticle in a 6-24X BSA scope. That reticle is calibrated for 10X, but since he wanted to use it as a ballistic reticle for trajectory compensation, we just measured the dot-dot subtensions @ 24X, which turned out to be 1.5" per hundred yards. So we divided that by 1.05 to get the reticle subtensions in MOA in order to match it up to a ballistics program for downrange reticle zeros, AND WINDAGE reference as well.

When we went out yesterday for coyote hunting, we wanted to check the downrange zeros/windage calcs., but the wind was blowing about 20 mph. This makes it even more fun since it gave us an opportunity to check the "tactical" system for horizontal as well as vertical trajectory. We set up a rock about 310 yds. away, and figuring a 1/4 full value wind reference he needed to aim at the 1st dot down, and something like 2.5 dots into the wind. I watched thru the spotting scope as he blew up the rock with his .223 60 gr. JLK load. It's pretty neat when it all comes together.
