LEE hand held "Auto primer" tool

Got one and tried it today after using my bench mounted primer for so long. This thing is the cat's meow, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I love it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Put my goggles on, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif sat on the couch with 40 primers in my tool, and primed 40, 222 Rem cartridges in no time. I really like the "Feel" of the primers going into the case. I of course kept the shell facing away from me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I used to use those myself. Wore out three of them. The pot metal arm on the inside will eventually start working a indention in itself thereby cause not enough pressure to seat a primer all the way. If they would just make this part out of steel it would be great.

Savage,
I remember your post from the other day. I'm glad to see the Lee worked out for you. Did you use those forbidden Federal primers?

I'll go with wrontarget and Jack, I've got one with thousands and thousands of primers thru it. I broke the handle a couple of years ago and when I called Lee they sent me a new one free.

I've got one set up for small primers and another one set up for large primers so I don't have to change stuff around. A little white grease will make them last a long time.

Grouse, yep, I used the Federal primers. I just kept the # of them down to 40 at a time.

I too keep the number of primers in the tray at 40.
Works mo better that way.

Many benchrest shooters use Lee AutoPrimes. If you use one, keep it greased and it will last you for a looonnnng time. That does not mean however that they won't wear out. I'm on my third unit after 15+ years of using them.
I put a groove in the handle on my last 2 for my thumb so it doesn't get sore after doing a whole bunch at the same time. Then I wrap the handle with some scotch 144C electricans tape to cushion the edge even more.

I not only have two Auto-Primes, I still have two of the OLD Lee hand-held tools, where you put the primers in one at a time. I still use them occassionally. I hate priming on the press, can't feel anything.

I got one and love it too. But my instructions, say to have a MAX. of 10 primers in it at a time, in case one detonates you dont have a huge explosion.

I'm with Wrongtarget...keep it greased at wear point and will last. I;ve had mine since 1984 and loaded zillions of rounds and still going strong. Love it.
