Left hand bolt action

How many of you shoot left handed? I wish I had more options in a bolt action Varmint rifle. I can find just about everything for the right handed shooter but not for me. I'm right handed but I shoot left handed. I've tried switching but don't shoot as good and I'm left eye dominant. What does everyone else do. Will I have to get a custom job and spend thousands of dollars. I currently have 4 right hand bolt action and only one left hand bolt action rifle.

I am right handed and have to shoot from the left shoulder because of an eye injury. Absolutely no problem shooting regular right handed rifles from the left shoulder. For my custom rifles I prefer a right bolt and left port for speed of reloading.

I am in the same boat. I have always shot left handed and always used right handed guns. Most of my guns have been presents from my folks and they always got me a pump action. When I bought my .243 here while back I just bought a right handed bolt action The left handed ones seem hard to find and plus they look so akward to me. It really doesn't hender me to much. Yeh, it may slow me down some reloading, but you just get use to it.

just got a model 12. tried to get left handed but they were out.I,too am left eye dominate, but right handed , I dont know if that makes a diffence .But I can rack the bolt as fast as my right shooting buddies when Mr. yote is high tailing out .P.S. Accutrigger is SWEEEETTT.

I'm a L/H shooter as well. What I do is buy the remington L/H bolts and rechamber and rebarrel to the calibers I want I have done this for the 222rem and 20 tac. also have a 223 and 22-250 in L/H bolt you will not regret it.Yes it is added costs but worth every penny and you will have no problem getting your money back if you sell them. If you want calibers in the 204,223,22-250 243,308 you have several options savage, remington, and browning. If you are a L/H shooter L/H bolt is the only way to go.

Savage, Remington, Browning, Ruger currently make left handed guns, and there might be others.

Go to gunbroker.com and type left handed in the search window.

dstrb1. is correct the savages are excellent rifles and I believe you can do a barrel switch without any major changes so you could do a 204 ruger and order a 223rem barrel and switch barrels if you want.

I am right-handed but I shoot left-handed. I haven’t handled one yet but I would think that a left bolt/right port would be ideal for me. I am worthless with my left hand when it comes to doing “detailed” jobs like loading a rifle or writing. To be able to work the bolt left handed, but load it using my right hand would be very convenient.

I shoot left handed, and shot right handed bolt rifles for years, but once I finally got my hands on a left handed rifle, I never looked back. I sold all my right handed rifles and replaced them with left handed rifles. Its just so much easier for me to shoot with a rifle that is designed for lefties. I will never buy another right handed bolt gun for my own personal use. My choice for a left handed bolt action is the Rem Mod 700VSF in .223 or .22-250.

Left handed and left eyed here. I have shot left handed rifles, shotguns and such. I never really could tell a diffrence between the two when shooting just reloding. With the auto loaders I felt a little more comfortable without having to watch the spent shell wizzing in front of my face. Me, I prefer left handed models and I try to seak them out. Savage has just about everything they make avalable in a left handed model. Remington is slowly catching up with us leftys but they still have a long way to go. Stag arms http://www.stagarms.com has a nice selection of AR style rifles that are truley left handed.

Left handed can be found, just takes a little more looking. I am looking for a 50 cal in left handed not found what I want yet but I will. EVEN IF I HAVE TO MAKE IT MYSELF!!

What kind of varmints? I'm left handed and only have one left handed rifle. I got Remington 700 30-06 at a pawn shop and got it rebarreled to a .257 Roberts. Put a thumb-hole stock on it, so it's definitely my rifle, not a loaner for those right handed people. I like it but I used right handed rifles so long that its more convenience than need. I use it for deer and antelope.

As far as varmints such as prairie dogs, I prefer a right handed rifle since I load the rifle each shot and the port is on my side. I recently bought a RH Tikka T3 22-250 for coyote hunting and I figure the first shot is the most important one, because if I miss I'm usually throwing lead at a very fast moving coyote and I don't even think about right or left actions, might slow things down a bit with a right hand rifle but so be it.

If you really want a left handed rifle they are out there, just requires some looking and for stock rifles may limit you on calibers.

Have lived with the same dilemma all my life. Left eye dominant and the only use I have for my right hand is keeping me balanced. I have owned a couple of Rem. 700's left hand. The current one is a pricey model made in their custom shop one piece at a time. I'm in love with that rifle and was torturing myself over what to do for a yote shooter. Just didn't want to spend that kind of money again and didn't want something that wouldn't measure up. My solution...."the black rifle". Different critter all together so any comparison between the two is like apples and oranges. I have been using a model 700 in .17 Rem (RH) and the reach over drives me crazy. Should have my Bushy in a week or so. Woo hoo!!

I am left handed but use a right handed bolt. I honestly dont no if I could switch over now or not. I think a left handed bolt would be ok but reloading I am too used to using my right hand.

Lefty here as well. Have a Rem 760 in 308 and a 7600 in 6 mm. Great guns for throwing lead, but I will be seeking out a trigger job to move the safety to the left side. Just bought an Encore with a left handed thumbhole stock. Special production run from TC for a distributor. As far as bolt actions, I have a Savage 22 mag in left and love it. Lastly, a right handed bolt works well if you are on a bipod. Just my 0.02. Like it was said before, you can find'em, just have to look for them.

Thanks for the info Jason but the wheels are already in motion. Expect that my Varminter will be on the way here by Wed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
