Thinking of tricking out my Ruger with a new barrel. Gonna keep it 308 but maybe a 260, not sure just yet.

Contest- Who makes the most accurate barrel for the money?? I know we all have our favorites. I have used Hart and Douglas so the're not on the list. Whadda ya say??

I don't know who makes the most accurate

But I like cut rifle barrels

I have used and recommend Krieger, Brux and Bartlein

They all shoot great and clean easily.
However, you may just want to get whichever quality maker that's available currently
Bugholes typically has several quality barrels to pick from on hand

Good luck

Well, I have been shopping around for a new barrel for a 6x47L project.

Between what I wanted, and what was available, after some research and some testimony from a friend who has several, I bought a Benchmark barrel. Possibly the best available bang for the buck.

Benchmarks are showing up on the equipment list for a lot of championship long range shoots. FWIW

To many "in the know", certain makers are known for producing hummers in certain chamberings/calibers.

When I think of a particular chambering, certain makers often come to mind.

Most will just start rattling off names here. That's okay though. Most custom barrels are well done nowdays, and just about any reputable maker can turn out a very good one. But if you do your homework......

I have a Brux in 270 Win. and a Shilen in 260 both on trued Remington actions. Very pleased with both. They are both next to lightest contours that are offered iirc.

That is interesting.
I have no clue(experience personally),but interested to see what will be recommended.
Curious if anyone recommends Satern..?

Have a Ruger 77 tang safety rifle with an inexpensive Midway heavy contour A&B barrel (now Green Mtn). Made a big improvement on its trigger pull by installing a $45 Rifle Basix trigger sear available only for the tang safety Ruger rifles. Have regularly used my Ruger to shoot in our ranges monthly Varmit for score competition. While you can shoot a custom rifle, its cartridges must be able to feed from a magazine, so no pure benchrest rifles allowed. Yes, don't think any of my competitors use a Ruger action rifle and pretty sure none of the gents I shoot with on a regular basis trying to put 3 or 4 shots into the same hole own a Ruger centerfire rifle. Never have won the competition with the old Ruger. But have outshot a fair number of gents with rifles built on much more regarded actions with certainly better brand barrels. So, my old Ruger has modified some of my fellow shooter's opinions of a rifle built on a Ruger action.

As to a recommended brand of barrel to use. At range I'm a member, have shot with gents with quite a variety of better known/regarded brand barrels, like those already suggested. Can't say as any of them were disappointed in the accuracy of them. Seems general consensus among them is they are all good, hard to say just which premium brand barrel is the really the best.

We can all generalize about something and be correct.

Like you, I'm a huge Kimber fan, but I remember a few years ago when multiple people (read as an entire here of them) were pulling their collective hair out over the extremely poor barrels in 7-08 that Kimber was kicking out. Hence, all Kimbers became an inaccurate rifle to many "in the know".

A lot of people have found Rugers to be very accurate in factory form. The issue of barrels is more an issue of factory guns - they all make some bad ones and we just hear about some of them more than others because its fashionable to be negative at times. The number of Remington distractors here is proof of that.

I have owned 2 Douglas xx barrels and they both shoot great one shilen it shoots great one Lilja that is simply amazing it cleans super easy and is an amazing shooter I just received a Brux cut rifled barrel and had it built a week ago and have been testing loads for it and can honestly say it's the most accurate rifle I have ever shot. I have had two PAC nor barrels I sent them both back the first one wouldn't shoot under 1.5" groups the second one wasn't much better and they fouled out horribly I know lots of guys that swear by them and say they are the best barrels made but I will never own another one. Just by owning the other barrels and cleaning them and shooting them there was a huge difference I don't low what it was but that pacnor cost me a lot of money and time I took that rifle to two different gunsmiths trying to get it figured out and ended up buy a Lilja barrel for it and that was the end of my problems. So all the barrels that I mentioned above will work as for the most accurate I'd have to say the Brux the Lilja and the shilen Brux being the most accurate and the Lilja and shilen being very close to each other my shilen barrel is on an AR and the Lilja is on a bolt gun and they will both print .5" groups or smaller all day long everyday. But my Brux seems to be in a different class.

Just said "thinking" about it. What the heck, everybody does Remmy's and Savages and I have a few of each of them in the closet right now. Got this little Ruger feeling all left out.
