Letter to the Editor at Outdoor Life

I just went to www.outdoorlife.com and sent a letter to the editors concerning the rantings of Jim Zumbo. Here is the letter that I sent, I suggest you all do the same. If we do not stand up for our rights, no one will. We cannot allow wolves in sheep's clothing such as Zumbo to give ammo to the enemy.

Dear Outdoor Life,

I cannot express my disappointment at the recent writing of Jim Zumbo in which he expresses his disapproval of "terrorist rifles". With friends of freedom like Zumbo, who needs the anti's? Evidently we need to do a lot more work spreading the message about protecting our second amendment rights. I would have thought someone such as Mr. Zumbo would understand that "need" has nothing to do with our rights. Suppose we begin to consider "need" when granting freedom of speech, Mr. Zumbo would be out of business.

I strongly suggest selecting your columnists based on your target audience, unless you are looking for a readership of Ted Kennedy and Hilary Clinton, Zumbo is not your man.

I expressed my opinion to Remington also. I have used Remingtons since I started hunting and I can't believe they would have someone so ignorant representing them.

Remington could care less. If the truth were known, Remington may have calculated this. They don't make ARs and a substantial portion of their market share has been lost to the AR.

Although I agree, send a million letters and tell them where your next rifle will come from.

My comments:
To whom it may concern,

I am writing you a short note to let you know that I will never again read Outdoor Life so long as Jim Zumbo is on your payroll. His views on the second amendment and the rights of gun owners were made clear by his recent blog postings. I have seen his apology and don't believe a word of it. It is simply what he has to do to maintain readership. Some people will actually believe it. I know that you will have some excuses provided concerning his patriotism and views on gun control but they are meaningless. He is flat out wrong and I will not spend a single sent for an organization that supports and publishes his views. You can be certain that I will make sure that every gun owner I know is informed as well.

Is there an e-mail address for the editor? If so, would be nice to post it if anyone has it, or any address of where to send our thoughts to. I would imagine that bombarding Outdoor Life with letters would not feel good - to them. Might be good to contact the Outdoor Channel that sponsors his hunting shows. Addresses would help.

Here was my response to Outdoor Life.

Dear Outdoor Life,

I get a lot of magazines, but If I have a subscription to yours please cancel it asap. After reading Jim Zumbo's article on hunters using the terrorist ar-15 to hunt with,I actually thought Jim Zumbo had been kidnapped and a bunny hugging, peta card carrying lunatic had taken his place and written that article.I have already informed Remington arms that as long as Jim Zumbo is associated with their product,I will never buy another Remington firearm.I belong to a predator hunting site that has over 15,000 members and many of them hunt predators with the ar-15 platform.I have hunted with some of these members who use the ar-15,none of them exhibited terrorist inclinations that I ever saw.In Arizona we are limited to 5 round magazines, just like a Remington semi-auto is.The only difference is that the average ar-15 will outshoot almost any Remington manufactured now pretty easily.Remington has gone so far down the tubes in quality and performance, that it was easy to see why they were more than happy with Mr.Zumbo writing that ar-15 article. They see their profits dropping the more popular the ar-15 platform becomes.Tell Remington instead of using their mouthpiece to bash another firearm, put a little more energy into making a better product. The fit and finish and performance of the new Remington line of firearms is so below par its laughable. But its all about money and they are satisfied with the product they are putting out.I can tell you the majority of hunters I know are not happy with Remington firearms and are going to Savage firearms with their accu-trigger and it is light years better than Remington in a lot of ways.Bye Bye Remington,Bye Bye Outdoor Life,And finally Bye Bye Jim Zumbo,I never really knew you.
Take Care,
David L.Swaim Jr.

P.s.I wanted to take care of remington and outdoor life at the same time.Hence addressing both of them.Remington got a copy of the same email.

I wrote to OL too about Zumbo.

Dear Outdoor Life,

I cannot express my disappointment at the recent writing of MR. Jim Zumbo in which he writes of his disapproval of what he terms "terrorist rifles" (AR-15).

I am a Life Member of the NRA and GOA. I was shocked to see what Mr. Zumbo wrote. First off he claims ignorance about a very popular weapon style. Then he supports "banning" these weapons. He may not choose to use AR rifles but it is wrong of him to support any form of ban of such a firearm. He is obviously no friend of firearm owners!

I use bolt action rifles for my hunting weapons along with an AR for some of my predator and varmint hunting. AR rifles are not cheap, poorly manufactured firearms. They are highly accurate and very reliable firearms.

I never did have any love for Mr. Zumbo in his writing style or his television appearances. He is no Jim Carmichael. I won't read another Outdoor Life Magazine so long as he is associated with Outdoor Life.

All those editor guys at those magazines think they are the smartest people... they have huge egos and are just plain annoying. Do you have a copy of the article or a link to it that i could read???

Thanks
Cody
