Leupold Alumina flip-open covers?

Anyone order or using Leupold Alumina flip-open covers? If so, did you have an extended wait (backorder) on them for the 40mm objective?

I ordered a Leupold Mark IV M1 3-9x40 from an online vendor back in August and have yet to receive the advertised free Leupold Alumina flip-open covers. I keep getting the story that it is taking a long time for Leupold to get these out the door. What's the deal that it takes 7 months to receive a pair of flip-open covers? Leupold seems to be dropping the ball here in getting these things out the door.

Just curious as to the issues others are having with receiving these covers for a 40mm objective.

My question to anyone who has them, is the eyepiece turnable to wherever you want it, or does it have to be straight up and down. Having the bolt on the left side makes me have to turn a Butler Creek where the rear red button is about 11:00 so the bolt will pass. Will this be possible with the Luepold?

Houston,
I do know that they can be turned in any direction. When I posed this question about "screwing them onto the scope" with low rings, I was told that the covers do not spin while screwing them on.

Lefty, Huh!

I bought mine from Cabela's bargain cave, brand new returns for $22 each from and rear in Dec. They were well stocked on the floor as well. 1 40mm sold this week on ebay for $10-12 NIB.

I have the eye piece offset a little to keep it out of the way of my hat.

I love-em so far, they stay closed better than the Butler Creeks and look good too.

My last scope from SWFA, received by lens covers in 3 weeks.
Now the promotion is free lens caps not flip up covers but maybe sure scope cost more than mine so you got better freebies

A tip on the front objective cover.

I have a set of the Aluminas on a 40mm VX-III. I originally had it mounted on a Coyote with medium Leupold rings and it was impossible to screw the front cover on with the scope already mounted. The hinge would contact the barrel. I got around the problem by screwing the cover onto a sun shade and then screwing the sun shade onto the scope.

My point being if you buy a scope and Alumina rings and you're using the lowest rings you can get by with, screw on the cover before mounting the scope.

This doesn't necessarily hold true for all mounting systems though, because I sold the Coyote and kept the scope, later mounting it on a Ruger #1. Then I found out cover would screw on and off while mounted on the Ruger. There was a little more clearance, I guess because of the quarter rib.

I do like the covers though. Nice quality stuff, much better than rubber slip on covers

Hogin,
This scope was purchased from SWFA as well over 6 months ago and still no covers. I was offered the flip-up covers due to the price of the scope. This has left a bitter taste in my mouth with SWFA as they haven't come through as advertised. I wished I had just taken the route of buying from Midway...Never been dissatisfied with them.
