Leupold Mark 4 Question

Looking at the mark 4 and I see you can get them with illuminated reticles. The question is I have never looked or used a illuminated reticle before is it something that I should think about getting.I do not hunt in the dark if that makes any difference????
This scope will be for my AR and will be for yotes mostly.

I'd say it's all personal preference. it would be nice when you are looking at a dark target in low light situations. but some of those illum. reticles have batteries and i just wouldn't want to mess with that stuff on a hunting rifle- maybe on a bench rest gun. btw that would be a nicely outfitted AR being accompanied by the mark 4. they are outstandingly clear.

i have a MKIV 4.5x14x50 on one of my 308's and my buddy has one on his with the ill. ret. it does work nice but IMHO you really don't need it, its up to you, my buddies does work great in low light but the MK IV crosshairs are plenty thick to see in low light without being illuminated. just my 2 cents.

I had the Mark IV 8.5x25x50 and sometimes depending on the sky light the ill reticle would flood the view meaning that it would surround the glass with a glow.. If you going to be doing late night hunts consider the Trijicon accupoint or similar.

Let me also add that Leupold has came out with somthing like twilight, Leupold staff said that even with the glare of your eye in low light conditions that it would reflect on the reticle making it easy to see, no batteries, no lights.. just plain simple.

GH, The glow would happen with the Ill reticle in very low light conditions at night, if no night hunting will be made then the any of the standard reticles will do.

My idea on the IR would be to see the X better on those quick shots on yotes not so much for night hunting.Have any of you used IR and prefer to use them over the standard duplex for daytime hunting.

i have used both and both were on leupold MK 4's truthfully I like the plain reticle, but its a toss up, your not gonna need it, but your not gonna think it sucks if you get one w/ ill ret. it does light up well, and you can dim it down so you can barely see the illumination, it sounds like you want to get one thats ill, i say go for it, only a little more$$$ and its not like your NOT going to like it.

If I want quick aquisition I would go with a trijicon accupoint as you will always see a glow according to ambient light.. the more light the brighter.. Let us know what you go with..
