Leupold Mark AR vs VX-3

Looking to top off a new R-15 and I like the look of the new Leupold Mark AR scopes but when I look in the store it seems the VX-3 may have better optics.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Mark AR vs the VX-3?

The vx-3 does have better optics, or is supposed to anyway, as the Mark AR is a vx-2.

I have 2 mark ar's and love them, will probably get more.

The Mark AR's only come with .5 click adjustments instead of .25. That made me lose a little interest there. I am just more comfortable with .25 clicks. I have a 4.5X14X50 VX3 Ill Ret. on my R15, my B78 25-06 and my Xbolt 243. They are great scopes for the money.

VX3 definately has better "optics", but I love my Mark AR and wouldn't swap for much else.

It's clear enough that I could pick this pale beauty out of the morning haze at over 200yds away. Let her come in watching her at 3x and stopped her at 80ish yards.

Really like the looks of the mark AR glad to hear you all are happy with them. I have a vx3 that I love but the mark AR just seems to be a better fit for my r15...

Did you have the mark AR dipped or buy in camo?

I did have it and the PEPR dipped. An oufit out of Missouri did it called "Dynamic Finishes". It turned out well.

I have both the VX3 and a mark 2.And if I were to chose between them the VX3 would come out on top.Not sure how the Mark 2 compares to the Mark AR now but they look almost the same.

I'm not saying that the Mark AR is superior to the VX3, If I had a comparable power VX3 on my rifle....I would love it just as much if not more than the Mark AR. Just saying that with the Mark AR, you get alot of glass.

Mark ARs aren't just for .223s... here's mine on a Ti stocked Rem. 700 SS .25-06 (mounted in Talley "lows").

I like the low-profile covered turrets, and the 1/2" adjustments on the 3-9x40... it's the reason I bought this scope. I made myself a few # stickers for the turret and applied them based on a drop chart I had already worked-up for the 85 NBT at 3550fps.

Took it out to the Pawnee and proceeded to kill rocks and steel at various yardages out to 700 yards routinely... dialing the scope up and down. Adjustments are spot on, scope is light and built solid, and for 99% of my hunting I can't tell the difference between it, and my 3.5-10x40 VXIII.

Best $300 scope on the market... hands down.
