Leupold mark ar

Looking for a scope to put on a DPMS prairie panther coyote rig. I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Leupold mod 1 ar in 4X12X40. I've read it has the same glass as the vx 2.

I own 5 of the Mark AR Mod 1's with one being the 4-12 flavor. All of them track well with having shot out to 600ish yards. I did replace all the BDC dials with ones with just Mil markings. I do prefer the 3-9 TMR over the 4-12 as it has the matched reticle. With that said, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 4-12.

Thanks for the info. I have also been looking at the vortex viper hs lr. I can get the Leopold a little cheaper and they have a solid reputation.

We run Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 mil-dots on our Rock Rivers no problems, great glass,, dials in and returns to zero every time, and I like the price. Made in the USA!!!!

I have read that, yet I was informed by a Leupold rep at SHOT a few years ago that the Mark AR Mod 1 were VX-2 scopes...I dont know, and frankly, dont care. The glass is very good for the money, and the scopes just flat work.

I put a Leupy AR Mod 1 3-9x40 on my daughters M&P 15-22 and it's been a great little scope for not a lot of money and I'd have no issue buying one again. If the clicks were a little more positive I certainly wouldn't complain but that's most likely because I'm used to my NF scopes and that is no fault of the AR Mod 1.

They are not VX-1 glass. Actually, they could be called MK-2 scopes...but Leupold is filling a niche market by name alone. This has been confirmed by Leupold reps. Besides, the newest VX-1 is a great scope in and if itself. I am thinking a couple VX-1 2-7X on my AR's in the near future.

In their initial iteration, they were called the Mark 2. The Mark 2 became the Mark AR, and the Mark AR became the Mark AR Mod 2.

Which models? The Gen 1 Mark ARs should be all but gone by now. The Mod 1s come in Duplex, Mil Dot, and Firedot TMR reticle versions, everything else is the same.

Thanks guys for the info. I have been looking at the 4x12x40 model but I don't see where the make one with the firedot tmr reticle. They do make a 4x12x40 with that reticle but is called a vx r. Does anyone have any info on this model. Does the glass compare to a vx 3 or what?

You are correct, the Firedot TMR is in the 1.5-4 and 3-9, I was mistaken. I had the 3-9 with the Firedot TMR, and I didnt care for it. The reticle was ridiculously thick, to the point that was it was difficult to shoot groups on paper.

The VX-R is a completely different scope, and the VX-R Patrol different still.

Just got off the phone with Leupold Tech, I'm sending one of my Vari X III's back to get checked out, while on the phone with him I asked about the AR MOD I and, optically speaking, which of their VX scopes is it the same as. He told me "optically" they are the same as their VX I line of scopes.

Who knows? I was told the year they were introduced, by a Leupold rep, they were the same as VX-2...

For me, t doesnt matter. They have great glass, and track well.
