Leupold Quick Release Mounts

i was thinking about giving quick release mounts a try on my bushmaster varmiter. anyone use quick releases? do they return to zero when reattached as advertised or do you have to rezero the scope. Pro's and cons would be appreciated. i was thinking about going with Leupold. if anyone has already done this and likes it, what mounts do i need to fit the bushmaster receiver?

thanks to all.

I just put a set on my Varminter and like them so far. They are holding zero really well and seem pretty solid. dont plan on using the Quick release feature. I just didnt want to spend the money for mark 4 rings for the 30 mm scope i was mounting. Quick release seemed to be the "affordable" route....

Don't know about the Leupolds, but my Talley's have held and I've taken them off quite a few times. A little more money but they're worth every penny.

don't know what happened, but my last post didn't hit the board. anyways....

thanks again to you both.

red lobo - what were the model #'s for the Leupold bases?
did you have to do anything special to the receiver other than taking off the risers that came on the rifle from the factory??

tonlocus - haven't heard of Talley's. can you give me the model #'s you used? where did you get them?

thanks for you help.

QRW 30mm low rings model 49861 Matte.
I used these to mount a Leupold vari xlll ill. ret. 3.5-10 x 40. Didnt have to do anything to the receiver, actually left the factory risers on the rifle and it fits just right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

red lobo - looks like the model #'s may have changed some. your's didn't show up on the Talley website, but I think i know which ones to get.

did you get the lever of screw-lock style?

thanks for all your help.

Take a look at LaRue Tactical mounts. We tested them out at work last winter and they worked great! After 1000+ rounds out of a Barrett M107 and removing the optics at the end of each day, at the end of 5 weeks they still retuned to zero. They are not cheap but I'm sold on them.

I have QRW rings both 30MM and 1" on my 50 Beuwolf, 338, 375 H&H and 416 Remington just to show they hold up on big iron. In the butt ugly stuff they allow me to quickly remove the glass and put it in my pocket and not worry about the POI when I mount it again. I once shot a 1 1/8" 5 shot group at 100 yards with a 6.5/284 bolt gun taking the scope on and off between shots using the 30mm QRW Leupold rings. One of my 375's has the Griffin & Howe quick release cam arm mounts and at 3 times the cost don't see any difference in function or reliability.
I also have at least 6 sets of Leupold QRW 30mm high rings on my AR's and they allow me to change scopes easily for load devolpment or whatever.

thanks for the most excellent information. i am leaning toward the QRW 30's. i see that some are using low rings and some high, any particular reason? the tech guy at bushmaster says to use medium. what's a guy to do?
