I was thinking of getting another nikon prostaff 3x9x50 and saw the leupold vx 1 for around $50 more. Would I be better of with the leupold?

Leupold has an excellent warranty and service. Though you didn't say how you were planning on using a new scope, I'd say the extra magnification is worth $50, let alone the W&S.
Any differences in reticles? I suspect their both Std Duplex reticles but sometimes a dealer will stock an alternate reticle to offer a different sight picture.
I'm not sure how easy it is to get the reticle changed on a Nikon.

Get a leupold vx 1 3x9x50 .I have a vx1 4-12x40 on my 270 and its quite a well built scope and handleling the recoil of the light weight 270 any other cheaper scopes probably would have died but i am thinking of getting a vx1 3-9x50 so it will be a bit brighter for dawn to dusk use and thats the time i get most kills and best trophys. What about the nikon buckmaster scope?

I have 3 of the VX1 3-9*40. Excellent quality and durability. All were sighted in once (4 years ago) and shot many times without a single movement. Even though it is "low end" it still has the gold ring. That accounts for alot. I am not a Leupold junky either. My favorite combo is my Remington 223 with Simmons 44Mag in 6.5-20. I do however like the Leos. Of course the Nikon is a great scope as well. Get which ever one suits your needs the best.

I have the VX 1 in 4x12x40 on a 300 win mag and it works very well. I been using the Buckmaster 4x12x50 on a 22-250 and a 270 wsm with no complaints. I think the Buckmaster is clearer than the Leupold VX1 but not as clear as the 3x9x40 VX2 on the MLer. I would buy another Buckmaster or VX2.

I have the same leupold on my 243 its a great scope but I put a nikon monarch 6.5x20 on my 22-250 and I'm now a nikon man.In my opinion spend what you can and get better glass.
