Leupold VX-2 2x7x33 on a .223 call rifle

I upgraded my deer rifle scope and I thought I'd put my displaced Leupold VX-2 2x7x33 on a light .223 call rifle. Any problems with this scope in this usage? I'm hunting western WI farmland. Thanks.

When my eyes were younger I used a 1.75 x 6 x 32 Leupold on my 22 250. Was all I needed. My eyes have changed so I have adjusted by using a bigger scope on a .223 AR amd .204 AR. Both have Trijicon's on them.

I use a VX1 2-7 on a light .222 and like it. I can't shoot real great groups with it but she's a proven hunting performer. Also use a 1.5-4.5X Bushnell 3200 and have no problem getting on coyotes out to 300 with a 223.

This is what I shoot on my 6x45 AR. So far I have not had any issues shooting out to about 400 yards. Most of the time I use it on 2x and if I get one standing out a ways will dial it up. Works for me.

i put a vx1 4-12x40 on my 223. i wanted a 3-9 but my local gun shop only had the 4-12. im happy with the scope. i still would like a 3-9 or even a 2-7. i dont have much use for the higher magnification.

Well now I'm starting to rethink this. I moved some scopes around on my big game rifles and I was planning on keeping the 2x7 and selling off a VX-3 3.5-10, but I'm starting to see the 3.5 -10 as another good (or better) option for the .223.

Thoughts?

At the cost of a wider field of view for called in coyotes? Just trying to work this out in my mind. Thanks.

3.5-10 has enough field of view in my opinion. I feel the VX3 3.5-10 just may be the best all-round scope out there for a dedicated varmint rifle I may opt for a little more scope but in few instances would I go to a smaller scope.

Thanks. That's the whole idea that I'm "hanging up" on. I once had a pretty accurate .223 bolt and I really enjoyed popping a few crows now and then. I'm really a bird and deer hunter who wants to dabble in a few called in coyotes, crows, and general shooting, so I'd probably be happier and better off keeping the 3.5-10.

Lonerider, do not sell off your good scopes. You will always find a gun to put a scope on. 3.5-10 is a good moderate power range. I find that the higher magnification is great for small stationary targets at long range, like crows. It is when targets are close and moving is when the low magnification is best or when you have to be quick and take whatever shot that the game presents its self. I grew up with a fixed 4X scope on a 22rimfire . Most any bird or squirrel out to 50yds-60yds was dead meat. Rabbits and coons to 100+ yards were dead meat because they were bigger targets. Most shots were taken free handed but would rest the rifle against a tree or fence post if I had time and they were handy. A 4X scope can cover a lot of ground , it just depends on the size and range of your target.
