Leupold VX-3, other options. Need Target turrets

So I bought a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20 40mm LR with the varmint hunter reticle. It's a great scope, but I just don't dig the turrets. I like to dial and want something with open turrets and audible clicks. I have the closed (standard) turrets on mine and not fond of them kind of a pain. I do get the VH reticle has the different hash marks so you don't have to really dial, but still. Any suggestions on other scope looking in the $500-800 range. This is on a .223 used for groundhogs and paper punching prefer thin reticles with hash marks or fine mildots. Thanks in advance!

Have you considered sending it to Leupold to have the M1 knobs installed? I think it runs around $120-$130. I've had a couple done and really liked them.

I would send it in and have the M1's installed. I have done it on several scopes and they turn them around quickly as well...7-10 days from the time I ship to getting it back IIRC.

For both or just the elevation turret?

Both .

Nothing at all wrong with the Leupold & it would be great with the M1 knobs. However, if your looking at a whole new scope with really good turrets already on it, look at the Sightron 6x24 SIII. Glass is just as good (maybe even a smidge better) & is very repeatable. I think they are by far the best value out there right now. Plus (just like Leupold) they have a no bullchit forever warranty, with very quick service department right here in NC.

Best price I can find on new

These are dang near just as good as NF (if you don't need illumination). My gunsmith actually switch from Sightron to NF on his main 6BR & is now back to all SIII's. He said they look more clear to him...

If you like the varmint reticle keep it, but with the m1 knobs I would want a better reticle with consistant spacing weather mildot or tmr and leupold is fairly cheap on that end also.

On the Leupold 8.5x25x 50 what turrets are on this scope? I feel and hear the clicks and it has the varmint reticle on it as well? I haven't see the scope that the op has, so I am confused on why he can't feel or hear the clicks. Just looking for info

I was on line and it looks like there might be two different turret types. I am trying to figure out which one you might have because I am curious. I have caps over my turrets, they look like the m1 knobs in a way but smaller. I see what i think you have and it looks like just the normal windage and elevation adjustments on the regular hunting scopes. If this is the same scope, then i can see where you would want to get turrets for sure

I talked with a Leupold rep today. Great guy had a good visit. However, he told me that M1s can't be added to a 1" tube.

That can't be right can it?

They need to get things figured out.
I asked them last week about M1's specifically on an older Vari-X III 4.5-14x40, and the guy I talked to said yes.

I asked about my particular scope because I had heard that M1's couldn't be put on a 1" tube.

I just had the reticle changed out and the M1's added to this VX-II this summer. Of all the requests I have made the only thing I have been told they can't do is install a TMR in a 1 inch tube.

Oh, you don't have he 30mm tube. Question, why didn't you spend a little more for the 30mm scope with turrets when you bought yours? I guess a lot of people don't like Leupold anymore, but I try and buy American only if i can
