I am looking at a Leupold VX-I vs. the VX-II is the VX-II worth the additional $100? I will be mounting the scope on a 223/12 ga that will be used for day and night hunting. I am looking at at the 2-7 or the 3-9 variable power.
Thanks
Doug
I have both and in 2-7 and 3-9 and I will say that the VXII is slightly better and to me is worth the extra C-note. In midday conditions it is hard to tell the difference but in low light it will stand out a little more. I always feel that the price only hurts once and since it is a near life time purchase buy what you want and never look back.
I vote for the VX-II. The adjustment knobs are easier to use
and offer more precise clicks. The VX-II are multi-coated and the VX-I are not. You get what you pay for.
I have both also. If money is an issue there is nothing wrong with the VX1. From a reliability standpoint they both hold zero. The friction adjustments can be finicky but once you get the hang of it they are no big deal.
