I just ordered one of these for my 243 and was wanting some insight on the reticle and how it seems to match up with the hash marks in the reticle

Not sure on the varmint ret,but I set a up a BC ret for a friend. Got the FPS and followed Leupolds info and chart. Then proved it out to 500 yards. Was pretty dang close, IIRC I only adjusted the zero by .25"

Several ways to do it....

First thing to do is to run the ballistics on your load through JBM. Compare your drops to the MOA drops of the reticle, and note what the actual zeros are for each hash mark. Example could be 200-320-430....

Or you could zero the 450 hash mark at 450, and then shoot the closer marks to see how close the actual impacts are. Again, JBM will get you close.

Another way I did it, was to see how far my bullet would stay within 1" of my aiming point, again play with JBM. I ended up with a 225 yard zero (first hash mark) then the next was 350, then 460, 520, and 560. I just taped the drops on the side of the gun.

I have one on my CZ .204 Varmint..If you look at the instructions that come with the scope, there are two different determinations, depending on the caliber/velocity of your rounds...

I've found mine to be very close to estimates provided in the instructions...

I calc it, test it, troubleshoot it, then recalc in 50-yd. intervals to make interpolating between stadia lines a little more intuitive (faster). Like this Savage Striker 243 WSSM/117DTAC system--

IMO the 4.5-14x 40mm VH reticle and target elevation turret system is about as good as it gets for general purpose shooting to intermediate ranges at least.
