Levang Linear Compensator - How Well Does it Work?

I read a reference to one of these in a previous post and did a little googling concerning them. Who has one and how good are they at reducing muzzle blast? For example, a 16" barrel with this comp would give the same perceived blast at your ears as a ? length barrel (in you experience) with or without a flash hider.

I noted that Brownells carries them. Also, during my Googling, I think I saw a reference to a shorter Levang Linear Comp made for 16" barrels. I can't refind this reference and can't find anyone listing the shorter ones for sale. Do they really exist?

I am picking up a Bushmaster Optics Ready Carbine today and would really like to explore this levang 'thing.' Any downside to them?

Good Morning.
I have a 16" barrel on my AR. It came with the standard A2 birdcage type flash suppressor. For me, that setup was painfully loud. I put on the Levang and now it is just loud. There is a reduction in noice, but with the 16" barrel it's still loud.
I have not seen a shorter one than the one I got from Bownells.
As far as a downside, it may all be in my head, but I think my groups opened up a bit after going to the Levang. I'm not sure though. Accuracy is still adequate. If I remember right, another gentleman had a similar situation where his groups opened up too. He simply unscrewed the Levang, applied Lock tite and reapplied the Levang only he didn't torque it down, just left it hand tight.
Let us know how things turn out for you.

Thanks. How tough is it to remove a factory installed compensator? Methods?

I have no need for a regular flash hider and will either go with the Lavang or will just put a thread protector on the end.

Pretty easy to remove.
First I got the correct size of rubber tubing to fit the barrel and slit it down the side, install on barrel.
Then I used two blocks of wood that had V's routered in them at the barrel vise and placed this setup in a bench vise. With the rubber on the barrel you don't need much clampage to get it sucure. The factory flash hider should have flats on it for a wrench, unscrew. I cleaned the barrel threads very well, and the inside threads on the Levang. No LockTite. I put a wrap or two of electrical tape on the Levang and used poly lined pliers to tighten the Levang since it has no flats. Also, since there is no indexing involved, I used the same peel washer that was on it.

I have a 16 HBAR with the levang comp and it is easier on the ears than the miculek comp on my 20 hbar. There are much mor expensive solutions than the levang but it is very good IMO for calling as I do not like to wear ear plugs while calling. I still wear hearing protection when target shooting or varmint shooting. Accuracy in mine w/ 60 vmax hand loads and Nikon 4X is +3/4 off the bench for 3 rds. At the time I installed the levang I also replaced the stock trigger with a JP trigger and dramatically improved my groups, but I credit the JP for that. I used a regular crush washer on mine, don't think I would loctite it.
