lifespan of coyotes in the wild

Scott12,
One must take most of what we read on websites with a grain of salt. Yes, the "lifespan" of a coyote is around 15 years in a perfect environment but in the "real world", very few make it past 6. A study conducted in 1973 sampled 184 coyotes. Only 4 exceeded 10 years. None were over 12. In the fall of the year (now) 80% of the coyotes are 3 or younger! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope this helps.

i have shot several coyotes that had nt one canine tooth left ih their mouth. they had been eating cactus fruit and i guess the thought of a red hot rabit meal was more than they could stand. one particular coyote actually fell down running twice comming to the call. this was something i had never seen a coyote do.

Danny hit the nail on the head. 4 to 5 yrs. is usually what the average coyote makes it to, Don't get me wrong or take this wrong. Because some may make it longer. But on the average 4, maybe 5 yrs. is max.

i have seen a few dogs with no good teeth left also.. i have seen them run threw , over and around things .. i would be afraid of one that fell twice or staggered before i shot it that it might have rabies or be sick with somthing,, be careful !! its out there and can hurt you or your dogs at any time! grandpa fudge

the one without teeth that stumbled and fell sure had a suprised look on his face when the lead started flying. he was hit with the second shot running as hard as he could. when we took a look at him he had pooped all over himself. it was purple all down his back legs. my friend just laughed, he had seen this before. he informed me he had been eating the purple fruit from the prickley pear cactus. i look at him with great releaf, i figured he had aids.
