Light bullets in a fast twist 243? ( ruger RPR)

Anyone having any luck shooting the 75 grain vmax in one? It’s a 1:7.7 twist and without using my head I just ordered 200 rounds of 75 grain vmax to get me through a contest but have no clue how these things are going to shoot. I’m hoping to take advantage of the speed of the 243 without going too light. Luckily I only payed $21 per box on the ammo.

I am not sure how your rig will do but i have run the 80g nbt in my 8twist 243ai with very good results. One other thing to think of is a barrel with a fast twist will have more free bore. So you may need to load them longer than you normaly would. I now use the 87g vmax in mine and they do great. And i bet those 87s would work in yours as well. Good luck sir!!

Yes it’s loaded ammo as I’m only set up to reload 223 and 250 at the moment. I am thinking about ordering some of the 87s but don’t want to spend another 200+ yet if this 75 grain loaf shoots. I’m not thinking a coyote is going to be doing much complaining about getting shot with just about any 243 load. Especially a 75 grainer at almost 3600fps. Thanks guys!

Just have to see how they shoot, but should be fine at 75gr. Remember that the light bullets going fast from a tight twist have a lot more rpm than was intended for light bullets. They usually shoot fine, but have much more explosive effect on impact because of the added rpm. Harder on fur than a 105gr, say.

Thanks smokeless. I have thought about this and as long as it doesent cause runners, I could care less. I need them as dead as possible

I don't use factory ammo in it but I shoot 75 vmax's in my 1-8"tw 243ai. It's pretty hard on coyotes. If you don't care about saving fur I think you'll be happy with them as far as killing. Heck I've used the 75vmax on whitetails. I prefer the 105vlds though.

When I get this thing reamed to AI I will start rubbing a little heavier bullet. Don’t have the time to work up loads before January so I think that will be a spring time project. I do like the rifle though for a 1k gun

Just in case anyone was wondering, they [beeep] great in the gun and really didn’t cause as much damage to a fox as I had thought. I won’t say that it’s fur friendly but the que ball sized exits weren’t as bad as I had thought they might be.

Just trying to help so before i would pay someone to ream it as you said to a ai. I would spend my money on a custom barrel!! you will be better off!!

The Nosler 55 gr .243 purple Tips are Terribly Accurate , Deadly on Coyotes, and My Suppressed Stiller Predator 243 Ackley, 8-Tw, Screams them Down Range a little past Mach-4.
