Lightest bullet in a 1 in 8 twist

Folks,

I'm looking at getting my first AR. The more I research, the more I doubt my decisions. I'm concerned how light of a bullet I can get sub MOA performance in a RRA Predator Pursuit (1 in 8 twist). I see lots of people getting great performance in a 55 grain and up. Anyone having good luck shooting lighter than a 55 grain bullet? I don't see myself shooting heavier than a 60 very often. It will be primarily a coyote gun (20 inch barrel).
I would go with the RRA Coyote, but I don't want a flash suppressor.

Thanks

i've got an 18" 1 in 7. shooting 40 grain lead free's and it is NOT sub-moa.

its easily sub-moa with 55 gr+ real bullets

Are you reloading for it? if not most of the common commercial rounds are 55+

To re-phrase, Sub MOA below 55 is not that important. Just want to know if I shoot "cheap" white box 45-50's, it will be respectable.
Anyone ever had a RRA Predator Pursuit not shoot sub-MOA in 55 grain ammo?

I will say a 55 grain is all your going to need. Why do you want to go lighter? They Coyote Carbine by RRA has that flash surpressor on but it works awesome at night. You dont see a flash at all. I dont have an AR that doesnt have a flash surpressor but the one on my coyote carbine is by far a true flash surpressor.

A buddies gun with 1/8 I just got done with, shoots 40gr v max 3/4" groups. wich is pretty good for a 1/8. I think you will be fine with 45gr and up.

I use to shoot white box Winchester 45gr. HP's through my RRA A4 1-8" varmint 24" all the time when I first got it. My bread and butter handload is a Winchester case, CCI small rifle magnum primer, BL-C(2) powder and a 50gr. V-max. It's dropped several coyotes in the 250yd range and groundhogs have died out to 400yds with that load. Inside 200yds it'll eat a groundhog up pretty good. The load/rifle combo has outshot most people that shoot it. I had good loads using the same powder, case, and primer with 40gr, 50gr, and 55gr. V-maxes. I've got a buddy that has the same rifle and has good results shooting handloaded 36gr. Varmint Grenades. 1-8" is about as versatile as it gets in my opinion. Get the RRA 1-8" and don't think twice about it.

My RRA Predator shoots MOA with 50gr Nosler BT and Benchmark. It shoots sub MOA with 60gr VMax or 70gr Speer SP's with Varget.

i use 52gr sierra match kings with a 1-7" and it does very well up to 400yds. haven't really tried it for grouping any farther than that

I have the same experience with 40gr. V-max. in my 1/8 RRA Varmint. 5/8-3/4" at 100 yds.

I have a RR Upper with a 1-8 twist and was told 60 plus for bullets. I shoot a 60 grain Nosler in mine.

From what I was told on another forum and if you look it up length has more to do then weight. Not all bullets are the same lenght even if they weigh in the same. I would shoot a heavier bullet but the magazines stops me from loading. I suppose I could load heavier and use it like a single shot but that isn't the reason I bought the gus. I also have a 1-7 twist on my colt but don't shoot that one much.

Well, if they are anything like bolts, you are just going to have to try a box of the lighter stuff. My 22-250 has a 1-9 that can handle some 75s, and it shoots 40 v-max like a glued down laser...never more that 3/8" on the bench.

30 gr berger with 29 grains of AA 2230 at over 3900 fps out of 8 twist tikka t3 lite = 3/8" groups.

I would be more concerned about shooting 60 or 70 grain bullets out of a 12 or 14 twist.

My best loads out of my RRA PP 1 in 8 barrel is with 50 grainers. It shoots them dime sized. I then have loads with 52 grain, 55 grain, and 60 grain bullets that are all 3/4" or slightly smaller. So it is all I can ask for. I have some hornady 53 grain vmax ordered and want to try due to the advertised higher BC. If they work that is what I will be shooting.

I bought three boxes about a week ago but the wind has been blowing 30 mph so i have not shot them yet. I got a stag model 6 varmint with 1/8 twist. When i shoot them i will let you know. I have tried hornady 75 superformance, hornady 60 tap, hornady 55 vmax, but the most accurate by far is black hills 69 sierra matchkings. They shot 5 shots at 100 yards 1/2 inch groups all three times i tried them.

Shooting Times had an interesting article in their April 2012 edition about this very subject. They tested all sorts of different twist rates with various bullet weights. What did they conclude? 1:7/1:8 will shoot the light stuff just fine.

If I had to do it all over again, my 5.56's would all be 1:8 twist.
