Lightforce 170 or 140?

Hi All
Can anyone tell me the differences between the 2 sizes? Advantages or disadvantages from one to the other? Experiences with either? Thanks!

I have the 170 as well and love it. From what I could gather as I researched them the only difference, besides price, is the size of the housing. If this is true, I don't think the smaller size of the 140 would hinder its performance too much as the 170 has performance to spare.

I just bought a 140 and this light lacks nothing but also i dont hunt in the wide open areas 100yds is tops but i think it might be harder to identify animals in the bush at night this light makes it alot easier.

smallblockfuelie,
I'm thinking you are probally right. When I was comparing the 140 vs `170 hunterpacks on Alpha's site however it lists both as having the 75 W bulb. I'm thinking it is probally a misprint as all the other 140 vs 170 light packages are listed as you have shown.

I think it must be a misprint. I couldn't understand what the advantage was to having one an inch or two larger or smaller. The wattage difference makes sense. Does anyone know for sure that the wattage is the difference between the two lights?

the 170 CORDED light says 100 Watt but the 170 WALKABOUT shows only 30 Watt I was looking at the walkabout myself but is the 30 watt enough out too 200 yards for shooting?? or any suggestions ,,I like the idea of the 12 volt charging that way you can charge it while driving to next site .

The 170 has a 100 watt bulb corded,it has the power of the truck/car 12 volt/avg. 600 amps battery as power for the lighting requirements to use.......The walkabout 170 has a 30watt bulb that will reach out over 200yards can be recharged in car or home, has a corded snap=in line when the battery is low or useing it from car/truck. The walkabout also has LEDS(3) for walking around and not scareing the critters while you walk with it. Run time is 1 hour for light or 30 hours useing the LED mode, or 30 mins light and 17 hours LEDS........The 30 watt bulb is to conserve power useing the rechargable battery useing the focusable beam like a (mag-light)Depending what you want to do...........

They also can be seen on the cordless page at:

The 140's have a 75watt bulb becuase the 100 watt bulb in the 140 housing would create to much heat and would melt housing, there plenty bright, I use them every morning on way to work on my H2,the 170's and the 240's use same 100 watt bulb but the power is diffrent due to the inside globe. The larger globe, (240s) provides a lot more candle watt power than the 170's useing the same wattage bulb and if you want an even brighter light put a Glo 6 bulb in place of the Glo 7 bulb and gain 300,000 candle wattt power in the 240's........or 130,000 more in the 170"s

Have a great day.....From RickH2

Everyone,

I called LightForce up in Idaho this morning (they finally got back from vacation /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) to verify that I do in deed have the correct bulb wattages listed for the NightHunter 140 & 170 lights.

As is stated on my website ( Alpha Accessories: NightHunter wattages) , both the NightHunter 140 & NightHunter 170 come with 75 WATT BULBS . Even the printed brochures that LightForce supplies to me to pass on to customers states that the bulbs are 75 Watts in both of the NightHunter Packs. The 100 Watts that the LightForce USA website ( LightForce USA) states that comes with the NightHunter 170 is in error.

BTW: The WalkAbout light doesn't come with LED's inside of it, it's the LightForce Enforcer cordless light that does.

i just seen this thread and now im interested. i think i need one of the corded models. a few questions - if i have a 12V DC power supply rated at 7 amp-hours and im using one of the 100watt models that lightforce has, how long can i expect it to be near its maximum output ?

i need a light that will stay bright for a total (not constant) 30-50 minuites or better and be portable

308Holes,

According to LightForce, with a 7 Amp/hour battery powering a 100W bulb at full power, it should have an endurance of 20 minutes. Not the greatest, but that's at full power, if you use the BPS to turn down the brightness it will lengthen the endurance.

I just received a supply of some 9 Amp/hour batteries that are the exact same physical size as the 7 Amp/Hour batteries and therefore they will still fit in the battery bags. I need to calculate myself how much longer they will last compared to the 7 A/H batteries. I'll be putting the 9 A/H batteries up on my website later today.

BTW: Would anyone be interested in 18 Amp/Hour batteries??? They are bigger of course than the 7 or 9 A/H batteries, so they wouldn't fit the LightForce battery pouch. I guess you could carry them easily in a backpack though.

do you sell the rifle light by itself ? i only see it priced with the battery pack.

20min should be fine, although at some point i might want more juice to power both a hand-held light and a rifle mounted light

Thanks roy for correction on the walkabout does not have 3 LEDS only the enforcer has it, Thanks.........New at this.....RickH2

Rick,

No problem. It doesn't help any when LightForce's own catalogs & websites don't agree with each other or with their products that are actually sold here in the United States

BTW: I too own a Hummer, it's a '94 Wagon.

Sincerely,

Rory
Are you saying that the wattage on both lights is the same and the only difference is the size? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, both the NightHunter 140 & 170 have the same bulb wattage of 75 watts, but do have different size reflectors.

If you were to purchase the SL140 or SL70 separately instead of in the NightHunter Packs, the SL140 would have a 75 watt bulb & the SL170 a 100 watt bulb.

The SL170 when purchased as part of the WalkAbout Pack will have a 30 watt bulb.

Hope this clears things up a little.

Rory
That does clear up things a bit. Now for one last question. What's the advantage of having one reflector over the other?
