Lights or NV over bait

Which do you prefer.

I can see how a light would work in a calling situation where you are on a set up for 25-30 minutes and the coyote is looking in your direction to see the eyes light up.

But if you are sitting over a bait in a blind for over an hour you may miss one that is not looking in your direction with the light.

I don't do a lot of night hunting, but would like to invest wisely.

Edit: This will be used in Maine.

Thanks
Steve

If you're going to limit your technique to bait hunting, then NV would be my preferred equipment. I prefer red lights for calling.

I use a scopemounted red light on bait with good results. But the trick is to watch the pile without it. Thats where Hunteralert sensors come in handy. I take the 3 motion sensors and place them around the pile and when something comes to it I flip on the scopelite to Identify/Shoot.
Do Google Hunteralert for more info.
Has 100yd range and silent...............Jeff

Is there anyplace other than direct from Hunter Alert to order those, their shipping is $16.75 for standard shipping and $28.32 for 3 day UPS. Seems about $10 too much for no more than those things weigh.

I'm not sure you could identify it as a coyote from say, 100 yards just using a small LED light. If you put the bait too close to brush or the woods they will simply drag it off to where they are hidden more to eat on it. I have tried staking the bait down and once they see that they can't move it around they leave and usually never return to it. You would also leave scent around the bait if you walked to it late in the evening to turn the light on.

Something like a hog feeder light with a solar charger might work if the coyotes weren't too light shy.

I have tried Road kill dear close to the Barn/Dusk/Dawn light and they don't like it,so I would asume the same would happen under a Limb/Light. I sit in my blind no lights and wait for the alert to signal. Then get ready to shoot. Turn on scopelight,ID the the target,BANG! Simple.

After looking at the hunters alert, I started thinking, always dangerous. What about a solar powered motion activated LED driveway light or a security light with some red material on it. Just enough light to make you aware they are there and then use a gun mounted light to identify and shoot with. I saw harbor freight had some on sale.

Have you seen the LED tail lights that fit in a receiver hitch? They are about $10. I think at NAPA and Wal Mart. A while back I saw a guy on youtube that took two of those and mounted them on an ammo can, put a battery inside and mounted a solar panel to charge the battery. They were using it mounted on a post close to their automatic feeder for shooting hogs. It was a slick setup but I don't know if a coyote would come in under that much light or not. Tempting to try though.

Elusive Wildlife Technologies - the company that has the XLR 250 kill light also has some LED feeder lights that are not very expensive.

I saw the wildlife tech ones and was thinking about that, they are not to bright but would light up the area just enough.

I like the motion sensor idea the best just need to work out the details. Home Depot has one for around $50.00 that uses LED's with some red material it might work.
