Linear comp

I have a barrel that is threaded and I want to install a linear compensator. Do I need any sort of washer or do I just screw it on the barrel?

You need a crush washer or peel washers. If you havent ordered it yet you can get both from Joe Bobs and you'll have it in a couple days. Just ordered a Kiess linear comp and YHM crush washer from him last Thursday and it was here Saturday. Dont Forget to put PM in for the discount code. Youll get 5% off.

I use the Dragon Head from BHW. Bought it at the last PM Hunt and Carl was there to hand it to me. Per him, that one just screws on 'til it bottoms against the shoulder at the barrel threads.
Most of the linear comps are symmetrical and shouldn't need any timing or washers. The Vortex I replaced with the linear comp was also symmetrical and did not use washers.

May be fact or fiction but read somewhere that AR competitive shooters do not torque compensators/flash suppressors tight to the end of threads as interferes with or changes barrel harmonics...think used a liquid thread locker.

This is the Internet so a big MAYBE applies here.

My KIES .264 upper has one of Travis's linear comps. My understanding is it is not timed and not torqued. Rather it's installed hand tight with thread lock.

Another stupid question but what exactly is/does a linear compensator do? Benefits? Good bad indifferent? Not trying to hijack the thread.

Right, I've been using a Levang Compensator for years now and it is GTG too.
