We have been trying to learn how to call cougar for a few years. The 9yr old male i called in and killed. I was trying to make the sound of a muledeer being killed by a mountain lion. A sound i heard in the wild on an elk hunt. The best duplication on the fox pro is the blacktail doe distress. A mountain lion kills quickly so the sound time i think is important. Loud and about 10 seconds. Then silence. On the stand i killed the cat, i set up in a spot with complete coverage and a head net. Blew my closed reed call about 10sec then watched 7-10min. blew the quick call waited 5-7min. blew the call about 1min later i spotted him coming in fast on a short rim below the top. I "think" That you need to call to the cougar you want to kill. If you want a big male you need to invade its terratory. If you want any cougar, making sounds of dinner might be a better call. The most cougar sighting we hear about whith calls is the bow hunters. They call in some cougar while in close to elk. Bugles and cow calls. I think running a continous call on an ecall will work and know hunters who have killed cats doing fawn in distress for long stands. Young males/females seem to be what they kill. I have not heard of an old cat being killed by the long call set. It would be interesting to read of detailed stand sequences that have worked for others.
