Duckdog - I've always used the same load on coyotes and whitetail with very good results on both.
Load a 85 grain Sierra HPBT Gameking @ 3100 FPS using IMR 4064 powder. Sight in one inch high at 100 yards, and you will be about 1 inch low at 200.
Can't imagine needing to shoot farther on a called coyote. But for folks that like to shoot the 300 yard shots this loading will be about 9 inches low at 300 yards........ 'bout the same as my beloved 223 Remington, 'cept its still carrying 900 foot pounds of coyote stompin' snot at that range.
Great for short range whitetails (150 and in), and hammers the coyote hard, and will generally drop them on the spot even with a less than ideal shot we all get from time to time.
Nice to have one load do both. Boring to some I suppose......
