Load development for my 300 WSM

Hey everyone!

I'd like to start developing a load this winter for my 300 WSM (shooting a LH Tikka T3). I hope to use this on moose, elk and deer next year.

I have everything I need except the powder and primers. I would prefer to start with 180gr Nosler Partitions as I've already purchased them but would be open to other suggestions. I'm leaning towards Vihtavuori N550 (though having trouble finding it here in Saskatoon). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. I'm working off of the Nosler 6 reloading guide.

Not to hijack but since we're talking about the heavier projectiles, thought it might be helpful to share what Ive worked out for the bullets Ive been using. Tim,What weight of bullet are you using over the RL-17. I was working with the 208 amax with Rl-17 and never got a great load worked out with it. I ended up using RL-22 and have had some good results

No help here, but I am going to be working up loads for my 300WSM Browning A Bolt SS, so I will be following.

Sold my 300wsm before loading for it. I use '17 for others . It does say on the can made for short mags.

Like all others , you just have to try some and see what's best.

I've got a Browning A-Bolt, and with the 180's it was real fussy, not the 150's or 165's just the 180 grain. Ended with Partions and RL-19.

Got best accuracy from mine with 180gn bullets and heavier with IMR 4831. Reloader 17 gave better velocity but accuracy wasn't as good.

my personal opinion is that the 300wsm is best suited to 165's. it gets kind of inefficient with the 180's. 150's move pretty fast. i like the 165 for good trajectory and velocity.

Mine really likes RL 17 with federal 210M primers and 175gr Bergers. I can push them over 3200fps and shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups consistently if I do my part. This is in a winchester 70 with the factory tube still on it.
