loctite question

Here's a silly question, but I want to be 100% sure.

My JP trigger set up I am installing (second one I've done) calls for two types of Loctite: 271 on the set screws and 242 on the anti-walk screws.

I have been to 3 stores and everybody has Permatex brand threadlocker -- they all seem to have other Loctite products.

The Permatex part numbers seem to line up, e.g., 242008 and 271008 or something like that.

So the specific question is, "can I just use the Permatex products, or do I continue my search for Loctite brand?"

It seems pretty simple -- they're the same. But the trigger is a trigger and well, both important and expensive. And this is Loctite and semi-permanent.

Thanks.

Not a 'silly' question in my book as one of our pistol team members was cleaning his match revolver at the National Police Matches and was busy talking and grabbed the Loc Tite instead of the lube tube and wound up locking up the whole internal mechanism on hia weapon...

I can't help with the difference in the compatibility of the Permatex with the specification for Loc Tite...even though I would think they would be the same....If you have an auto parts store nearby, you might give them a call...

The last JP trigger I installed in a Colt didn't require any that I remember and I had no problems without it..

Yes, you are good to go with the Permatex version. I use both in the shop, and have had no issues with either.

The auto parts guy yesterday said "they're the same".

I was almost there, but to me there's a big difference between locking down head studs and a trigger job.

Based on your advice Mike I'll go with the Permatex version.

Thanks guys.

one probably is a blue loctite and the other I am betting is there red I would think you could look it up on the net.

Red requires a torch to get loose.
Blue is not as bad but will make you work at it.

if you cant find out send me a Pm and I can go look on my truck I don't remember the numbers.
Mike

Naw, we figured it out. Looks like they're both made by the same company (now) and the first 3 numbers of the Permatex part # match up with the Locktite numbers right across the board.
That makes it easy.

Yep we're good. Thanks guys. The trigger is timed and resting nicely as the loctite, er uh, permatex is setting up.
