Lohman Circe Problems?

Ok last year I bought a Lohman Circe call, I love the sound, but after only 2 calling sessions, it won;t work...the reed blows shut...I have tried cleaning it, tapping it...and it doesn't com apart, so it looks like the reed is stuffed in via the barrel of the call, and not relaceable...where would I get one anyway...

Anyone else had problems with this call.

Maybe its just time to get a THO set of calls...

This call has less than 30 min of calling on it...doe they have to be changed out that often?

I have an old call I bought at a pawnshop and while its not as loud, and sounds a little hollow, I would be willing to bet it lots hours of calling on it just since I've had it, and it works without issue.

Bloodhound,
The reeds should last a lot longer than that. My guess is that the reed was damaged when installed at the factory.

Bloodhound, that is my favorite call for here in Nevada. I have had one for years and it does fine except it does freeze when it is cold. The moisture from blowing it actually freezes in the call. I just keep it under my jacket. Also, I blow from the other end and it seems to clear it fine. Even with the minor problems, I think this is one of the best calls I use in my experience.

Glad to hear its not a problem with the call design.

I did make an order from Al at THO calls, and I think I will contact Lohman and see about getting the tool, and some more reeds for the call as a backup to the THO calls.

Thanks for the input /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Bloodhound,
I just had a similar experiance with a P2 Circe call that I bought last week. Right out of the box and anything more than a light huff and it blows shut. About the only sound that I can make is a fairly decent fawn bleat. Anything more and it blows almost completely shut. I may just use it as a deer call, which can be very entertaining when a protective doe responds and charges right at you! I have heard though that these closed reed type calls can be tuned and wonder if anbody could enlighten us on this.
Thanks, Joel.

If you contact Lohman customer service they will send you what you need, free. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It is sad to hear of these bad experiences with Circe calls since Lohman took em over. The OLD Circe calls with that galvanized looking double reed jackrabbit voice was a real winner. Actually I place a lot of the blame on JC products for changing over to stainless steel for reeds. Either way I look at it, whoever decided to trash those old original reeds was a jug head. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does anybody have a link to lohman or circe that they could post? I think I'll take your advice and see if their willing make me right. I did about six Google searches and got nothin but retail outlets. I wouldn't be in this predicament except for a night hunt last year that got so frantic that I kicked my call bag out on the ground jumpin out of the truck so many times. I retraced my steps the next day but the snow was just to deep and we had covered so many miles.
The call I miss the most is apparently no longer made by Lohman/Circe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif It was a long range jackrabbit reed with a slightly longer body than their standard calls. You could blow that thing straight into wind until your face turned blue. I've been looking but apparently they no longer make it.
Thanks,
Joel.

I got a response today, here it is...

Please send the call back to the following address and we will replace it for you. Kolpin Outdoors Inc 205 N Depot St Fox Lake WI 5393. If you have any questions please call me at 1-877-956-5746 Ext#123.

So they will replace them, but it sounds like this may be a rampant problem with the call....
