Lone Survivor

this past weekend I went to see the movie "Lone Survivor" the story of Marcus Luttrell. I will say it is a must see for anyone. I have not read the book but was told there were only a few differences than the movie proclaimed. I can honestly say it was the best movie I had seen in a long time. Sometimes I need to see a movie like this to put into perspective what a military person goes through. No matter what the cost they are asked to sacrifice things in their life for the sake of others. I often find myself complaining how bad I have it or think my day is bad. Never to have walked in the shoes of a soldier, I don't think I realize how much they are put through. This movie helped me appreciate more the time you have here on earth, because others have been cut short by their sacrifice. Thank you to all who serve, we are a better country because of you!

Currently reading the book ... then I will see the movie.

.... agreed on how we're blessed that these folks are making sacrifices so that we can have our freedom.

Well said! I will purchase the movie when it becomes available.

I also have seen the movie along with my 13 year old son. It is a very gritty and incredibly intense movie.

As I told my son after the movie and seeing a dedication with photos of the military men and their families lost in Operation Redwing and doing my best to keep a quiver out of my voice and a tear out of my eye, "That was a hard ride".

There is no varnishing or sugarcoating the ugliness of combat in this movie, as it should be. It was not a good day for the Special Operators, their rescue teams, or the military and it's treated as such.

It's not a movie you get up from with happy thoughts and cheers, but it is one that Americans should see.

Not since Saving Private Ryan have I seen a movie theater completely quiet at the ending of the movie. When the lights came up there were several middle aged and older couples holding each other and I could hear some quiet crying/sobbing as we walked past. Really wondered if they had lost a loved one over there in the past or had one currently stationed overseas. The movie was a good view, however it wasn't completely accurate to the book. Actually from what I have read the book isn't a completely accurate account of the true events either. Either way you have to respect those guys at the point of the spear. Dammed glad they are on our side!

Edit: Did ya'll spot Marcus Luttrell in the movie? He had a speaking role in the movie.

Yes, he was in that scene and a few others. Marcus Luttrell used to be a co-host of a hunting show several years ago.

Havent seen the movie yet! I read the book a year or so ago. By far one of my favorite books, the first half was good but a little slow as he talked about his training. After I got through that I think I read the second half in about 2 sittings. It was so good I couldnt stop reading.

The book is the first and only book Ive ever read that brought a tear to my eye so Im excited for the movie. Im just waiting for it to come out on DVD.

The movie is good and the book was even better. If anyone hasn't seen the movie, you really should. With that said, if you have seen it and read the book you will notice several significant differences. Definitely understandable in regards to length of the movie and what not. Still [beeep] good.
