Ok gang I just had a friend talk me out of getting a gen 2 monocular for scanning. I am mostly a coyote hunter and live in the Mid Michigan area.

If any of you have one for sale or know someone who does please let me know.

Moderator if this needs to be moved to the classifieds let me know. I looked and didn't see any wanted postings.

Have you been hanging out in the night calling section? Because of competition in the market place people have started to upgrade to newer units, hang in there wait a bit and you should be able to get a deal. I have the PS-32 and love it!! I had one for three years and the screen started blanking out..Flir sent me a brand new one, once they got my old one,no questions asked!
Your friend is right thermal is the only way to go for a scanning monocular...its almost cheating!! You may want to get a PS-32 if you can wait..it has the 2x zoom..

Also you will absolutely love it for finding arrowed or shot deer in the dark..

BayState...sure have on pretty much all the boards. I started our season out here using red lights. This is the first season I really did much night hunting and I love it.

I read several post from guys who have used both the 24's and 32's and there advice was to save the coin and get the 24. They said they could hardly tell the difference between the 2.

The PS-32 is much more powerful, efficient and longer range than the PS-24 is by a factor of 4X.

With newly released upgraded FLIR Scout IIs this year, the new PS-24 is as good as the old PS-32, but the new Scout II PS-32 is even better.

If you need thermal for under 150 yards the PS-24 is what you need, if you need thermal out 600 yards, the PS-32 is what you will need.

Anyone who cannot tell the difference between a PS-24 and a PS-32 does not have much thermal experience.

Thanks Skypup...a friend told me to PM you and I hadn't done it yet. You have cleared some things up for me. I had thought I was going to get by with the 24 but I want to be able to detect out beyond 150 so I will have to put of getting a thermo device until the fall.

I guess for now I will have to stick with regular night vision for scanning as my budget isn't going to allow any more than that. I have a line on a new ATN NVM14-CGT with headgear that I can get from a friend for very cheap....this will have to do till fall.

I would imagine that quite a few people will be upgrading their older PS-32s for the newer Scout II PS-32 that has just been released with the higher resolution LSD viewer, upgraded firmware/software for the Tau II core, and the USB video out.

I bet you can find a used PS-32 for around $2K, they last a long time.....

My only experience so far is out once this season and detected 2 inbound white targets moving in at 175 to 200 yds out. Had no trouble seeing these moving white signatures. Could you tell they were coyotes? No but you knew that's what they were. Confirmation was confirmed through the D740. All I want is to detect movement out there and then ID it with the scope. I am way short of experience at this point to tell you how far I will be able to detect a coyote size movement but it worked at the range I described. I picked up my PS24 on Amazon for 1500 around Christmas. From the threads I read, the guys were using them successfully for this purpose and sounded experienced with them. I thought about waiting for a used 32 but getting the warranty for a new one was a factor for me as well as the 1500 price at the time.
