Looking For An Old School Hunting Headlamp

Hey folks I was on the phone with my uncle today and we were talking about predator hunting and pest control and recently they had just gotten a batch of baby chicks for the coop. They've been scared off now but for a while they had a problem with skunks getting into the coop ( I didn't know skunks were brave enough to challenge a chicken coop ) and the rat bastard was in there one night and my uncle went in there with a hand held light and a 17HMR pistol and jumped scared him, ran out the door at the speed of MACH 2 surprisingly didn't spray.

But my uncle and I mentioned how he wished he had one those old school 12v headlamps the sporting goods store used to sell where the lens/bezel of the lamp was shaped in a way that you had light on your target but also light on your sights without causing overshadow. Anyone know or seen what he is speaking of?

I agree with the coon headlamps suggestion. Been a bunch of years since I’ve looked but HuntSmart.com used to have a good selection of headlamps.

Just throwing this out there....

With today's lights you can probably go to wal-mart and buy a good headlamp that will be brighter than the older lights you speak of.

I also agree with what DoubleLung said. Especially if this is just a one off situation and you aren’t really into coon hunting or whatever. Coon headlamps wouldn’t be my choice if you’re using for predators. Lots of good headlamps with more throw out there.

Another option is…I have a really cheap Red LED headlamp I got off of Amazon for scanning. Can easily pick up eyes at 300yds with it and beam is adjustable. Under $30 and it’s rechargeable. You should be able to get plain white light as well.

Amazon has motion activated noise makers that seems to work keeping deer out of my flowers. They sound like a dog barking and shotgun firing,

Do you know the brand name?

I use a SHL 38 mounted under the barrel of a shotgun for coop raiders. A light under the barrel illuminates the outline of the shotgun barrel. It's like shotgunning in the daylight. Point and click the easy button.

Link to barrel mount below.

Have an older LIghtforce 140 or 170. Used to mount that on the scope or barrel. have the red lens for it. All before the advent of smaller LED lights.
