Looking for Suggestions on a New Gun

Springfield ....XD series or one of their 1911s. If you reload keep in mind some suggest you not use hard cast lead in a Glock.

My son has a Range Officer (Springfield) and it a very nice 1911.

Back to the basics, what use? Is this for CC, mostly range, 'woods carry', home defense or what? That may very well have a bearing. Also what other handguns do you own? Do you have or about to get a CC permit?

All good questions. I am considering getting a CCW license, but not for this gun. Honestly, I'm just looking for a good all-around handgun that could be used in self defense in a bind, or as my execution sidearm when hunting.

I've got a S&W 8" .357 Mag, and a couple .22s, so I'm looking for something in the middle. I've got a bunch of Army buddies that own a wide variety of handguns, although most seem to lean towards Glock, Sig, and S&W.

I'm considering a Sig P229 or P226, but there are a lot of people on this forum far more knowledgeable than myself on guns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

S&W M&P40 is my choice. I have a 4.25" M&P40, and a M&P40Shield, and a M&P40 Pro CORE, on the way. I had a XD40 before any of the M&P's and I did not like the "Feel" of the XD so I sold it to a buddy.

You could hardly go wrong with a Glock 19 in 9mm or 23 in 40s&w. I'd also keep your eye out for a 4" Ruger or S&W 357 mag. The wider the search the more chance to broker a deal. Since some guns are in short supply right now I'd have secondary choices.

Your budget is a factor. In general I'd rather save up a bit & step up a rung or 2 in quality over lessor choices. Besides any local shop check out Gunbroker & other online choices.

If you have the money for one,,,The Sigs are top of the line...I have a 2022 Sig Pro in 9mm and an older 230 (.380) that both out shoot most of any that I've had in the past (41 total)...The 2220 just a little big for Concealed Carry and if I could afford to buy or trade for one of the smaller ones, such as a 224 or 229, I'd do so in a heart beat......

Thanks for all the suggestions! I definitely have a wider search ahead of me

9mm=Beretta 92FS
40= Glock
45= 1911

I love my Beretta 92 FS. It's nice to not have a plastic gun but I'd trust a Glock anyday for protection.
