Went out yesterday afternoon with my wifes somewhat blessing. Still a bit sore from surgery. Made a couple of stands with no takers and then decided to head back to my sisters parents place. Crawled up in the loft of the barn and started calling. Used my yellerdog howler several times and got some good replies. After 13 minutes I watched a coyote sneak down the treeline towards my position. By this time it was starting to get a little dark but being there is snow on the ground made it easier to see. The coyote heard the goats in the barn below me make some noise and stopped dead in his tracks. I tried a few different calls to get him in closer..........he was not budging. So I pulled out my range finder clicked it on him 347 yrds. A bit of a distance raising my new H&R .204 ruger I put the crooshairs of my shepard scope on the coyote and move to the 1 mildot below zero should put me in the ball park centerd on the boiler room and click that coyote shot strraight up in the air like he had the @#$% scared out of him and made a bline for the woods to the neighbors property. So I got out of the barn and went to knock on the neighbors doors and asked for permission to tracked my yote down. He said no.......hmmm disappointed I walked down his driveway and then watched him talk his two hounds for a walk. Wnet back to my sisters place and told what happened she was surprised by the neighbors actions. Since her parents are pretty good friends with the neighbors. To make a long story short he got my yote and let his dogs take care of it. So much for that, what can you do.
