Planning on rebarreling my K98 to.308 or 30-06
Considering LW because they offer a Military contour so I could keep everything else original.
Anyone have any input on LW barrels ?
I know they are button rifled but are they Polygonal rifling ?
does any othe barrel maker make a military contour ?
I'm looking for accuracy

Incredible barrels, I have 5 rifles wearing lw's and wouldn't change a thing. There steel is harder then most and wear on tooling more so a lot of smiths don't like using them for that reason. Go with it and don't look back.

I had a guy bring one into my shop to have it barreled on his action. I didn't notice the steel being any harder than any other barrel I have cut on. I lapped the lugs, barreled the action, set the headspace and he left happy. I asked him later how it worked out and he stated "it is the most accurate rifle I own." I wouldn't think twice about using one of them on my own rifle, I take a LW barrel in a heartbeat and not look back. I especially like their polygonal rifling.

I have a LW barrel on my 50 BMG rifle. It is an excellent barrel. Many of the benchrest shooters at my gun club use Lothar Walther barrels as well.

Lothar uses a proprietary LW50 stainless steel which is supposedly more durable and corrosion resistant then 410 series stainless steel. I have had a couple different gunsmiths comment on its hardness compared to the more common 416 stainless. They shoot incredibley well and that's all that matters to me.
