LPVO and Calling Coyotes ?

Any suggestions for a good LPVO on a AR .223 Rem for calling Coyotes ? Do you use a BDC or duplex or MIL crosshairs?
Was looking at a Primary Arms with ACSS thoughts on it for coyote hunting ?
Should I be looking for a 1-6 or 1-8 or 1-10 ?
Thanks

I use a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24 with the illuminated BDC reticle. I mainly run this setup for 2 gun matches, but has been very effective for coyotes as well.

My thoughts that on a CALLING rifle you shouldn't really need anything other than a heavy duplex as most of your shots should be under 100 yrds and you should be able to hold on fur to nearly 300 yards.

I really like a German #1 or #4 on my 1.5-6x40 scopes for fast target acquisition both on bolts and AR's.

The Burris is the oldest, and the lightest on a 1" tube, clear but not as clear as the other two. It is one of my favorites, if I get in a slump I drag it out to get me back on track. It is on a 22-204 that I've been shooting coyotes with since 2006.

The Konus is a 30mm body with electronics and is pretty heavy. Surprisingly for an inexpensive scope(under $150) it has really nice glass through all powers. I don't dial scopes so know little of the reliability but it was spot on zeroing it and has held zero bouncing down two tracks on the back of the motorcycle. I liked it enough that I bought another and have it on my custom Rem 600 in 6x45mm. It is only a year old so longevity is still an issue but Konus has been around a pretty long time and it does have an etched reticle.

Meopta is a great scope again heavy with a 30mm steel body and a German #1 is super fast on target acquisition and I've tried it on a few different rifle and like it alot. Not something I'd want on a rifle still hunting through the forests of northern WI or MN but perfect on a stand for called coyotes. It is a brute of a scope. The #1 reticle in it is surprisingly precise as it is fast, if we ever have and Egg Shoot again I wouldn't feel disadvantaged shooting it.

Like I said most of my shots are under 300 yards with a majority a third of that and less. I never have to dial a scope and rarely ever take them off the lowest power.

I do have a couple rifles set up for open country 20 Practical and 22-250 both with heavier barrels one has a 2-12x40(BDC) and the other a 2.5-10(duplex) The 20P has a BDC that I've take to 500 yards on the range but the couple coyotes I've killed with it have been between 20-30 yards where they finally stopped. Same with the 22-250 open country with power to go 500 but still three under 20 yards in open country of eastern WA. You have to carry them to kill coyotes and being heavier rifles they get left home alot and so far haven't found that I need the range they provide..

Couldn’t agree more with AWS on ther German 4 reticle.

My lightweight calling 223 AR wears a VX-3 1.5-5x20. It has the German #4 reticle which is my favorite reticle for calling. That reticle helps you get on target fast, helps you find your reticle easier if looking into brush, and also helps it be more noticeable if using a light at night. 5x is plenty of magnification for most typical shots when calling, especially here where I’m at usually hunting close to or in the woods.

I also had a 1.75-6x32 VX3 with heavy duplex reticle. Bought it and the 1.5-5x20 at the same towards the end of last summer. I couldn’t really tell any difference in the image at the bottom end magnification and there wasn’t enough difference between 5x and 6x on the top end to matter. The difference was in the reticle. I felt like the heavy duplex took up a lot of the image where as the German 4 did not. Even though the German 4 is heavy bottom and side post, I felt like the heavy duplex appeared thicker (blocky) and there wasn’t as much of the finer reticle at the center of it compared to the German 4. I sold the 1.75-6 due to the reticle, even though I wanted to keep it due to have the tad larger objective for hunting late evenings or nights. Checked into sending it in for reticle change, but thanks to COVID that service was not available then.
