Lyman 55 powder measure?

Yea or nay? I've seen several up for sale, old and new models. Reviews on Midway seem to indicate that the old model is better than the new. Anyone own one?

I just purchased an older one from a member on another board a few weeks ago and so far no issues. I like it just as well as the RCBS, It seems to cut the courser powders a little better than RCBS but that is just my opinion. Like everyone else, My opinion and a buck fifty will buy a cup of coffee

The Lyman 55 was my first powder measure back in the 70's. I still have it and still use it. It is a little sticky on flake powders. its best operation is with stick powders. It is accurate and the clamp on mounting makes it easy to empty your unused powder back in the can. With the three position settings you can get a measured charge pretty fast.

I used the 55 starting back around 1985, replaced it with a Redding after 15 years.
I personally didn't like the Lyman, was hard to use the bigger stick powders. After several years there were a few "nicks" that developed on drum. Probably doesn't hurt anything tho.

The Redding I have now, which is not one of top of the line, does work much better.

I still have the Lyman 55, case trimmer w/pilots, no need for them any more.

Been using mine since about 1976. Works great for me. I use thrown charges in every rifle caliber I load with no problems getting under MOA loads in my rifles. A couple of them do much better than that.

My dad passed his lyman 55 down to me that he owned since the 70s. He upgraded about ten years ago and he favors the old lyman cutter better than his new one (can't remember the make). Lots of powder has gone through this powder measure and I have no problems with it. If you want an older model you will have no problem picking one up on ebay.

An age old standby............

I've had one for years, as well as some others.

Adding a powder baffle to the old 55 has made it even more consistent.
