Mag capacity for hunting Coyotes in Colorado?

I just picked up an RRA Ar this weekend and it came with a 20 round mag and they did not have any 5 rounders in stock. My question is can you hunt coyotes with the 20 round mag in Colorado. The people at the Gun shop seemed to think it is ok, I thought it had to be Max 5 rounds. And if I was trying my luck at a Bobcat in a mouth or so is it also the same. Thanks DP

You could hunt with a hundred round drum if you chose to do so! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif No AR mag capacity when hunting small game in CO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have a 100 round beta mag that I picked up just because. Fully loaded it is more weight than I want to carry but I love living in a state where I can use it if I want to.

I had this very same question before I went to Colorado the weekend before last. I had spent a lot of time looking at the Small Game Brochure online and every time I looked it got more confusing. In one place I did find where it said only 5 round mags. I ended up calling the Denver office and the guy I talked to said "It is rather confusing, isn't it". Ends up the mag restriction was for Big Game.

I was set to go with the Bushmaster, as it came with a 5 round mag, but when I tried to get a spare, every place I tried, said they dont make them that small.

no mag capacity regulation
just don't get caught using a rifle of legal caliber for taking of big game without a valid big game license for the area your in you will need both if using the wrong caliber

anything under 243 and all you need is a small game lic.

For me to hunt coyotes only, during a big game season, I had to use only a rifle under .23 caliber. I dont know if I could have even carried my 357 in the holster at the time I was calling (I didn't think to grab it, so no biggy there).

One of the other questions I had was what I needed for a license. One place in the brochure said I need the "Small Game" license, another place said I needed a "Furbearers" license and in another place it said I needed both.

The first call I made was to the Gunnison office, since that was the area I was going to. The gal there was clueless, said I couldn't hunt coyotes during a big game season, said after the season I would need both the small game & furbearers license. When I called the guy in Denver he was more than willing to help, and if he didn't know the answer, he asked someone else.

And this only applies west of I-25.

A small game license, furbearer license, or unfilled big game license is what's required. You do not need small game and furbearer. You may try calling the Colorado Springs office if you have any further questions. The employees there are normally pretty sharp. 719-227-5200
