Magpies in CO

Anybody know if they're legal to take here? They're suppoosed to be protected by the Migratory Species Act with exceptions or some such nonsense.

I didn't find a direct answer but in the small game regs...#518 it states you can kill then to protect your land, crops etc.

I'm betting you'll find the only two species that aren't federally protected are the English Sparrow and the Starling. I know there are exceptions for some exotics.

Protected in Utah for sure, don't know about Colorado, but I read somewhere there is a treaty with Mexico that protects corvids.

Call the DOW, better safe than in court.

Call the federal wildlife guys as they are the ones who will prosecute you for shooting a magpie. They got a guy a few years back over by Rifle for shooting them as they were stealing dog food and someone called the cops and the Feds charged him for shooting them.

I actually chuckled out loud on that one.
