majestic tree hound

Pretty as all get up...

I always thought they were a tad slow in the race, and to cold nosed for my applications and likings.

But...To each his own!

Jon...

You want this cold nosed dog to trail deer. If you shoot one just put it on the ground. Course not every one is as good as me. JUST KIDDING. If i make a bad shot theres snow to trail it on. MUCH EASIER!!

The hunters are paying $5000 to $10,000 a deer or more in some cases and not all of them are the best shots. You shoot a deer in the guts at 60 yards with a 7mm ultra mag. the deer runs off and the dog man comes, $400 for dog man. Dog man finds deer deer 3 hours later after a long track, deer still alive I might add, and guide and hunter recover deer. You bet I want a dog with a good nose no snow down here in South Texas only dry dry ground. The dog man we use tracks over 100 dear a season you do the math.

Not to "hijack your thread", the Wildlife Manager on the King Ranch, uses a catahoulla, for recovering all types of game. The Majestics are great dogs, as good as any,I have freinds in Canada that run 100 or so cats a year with them.

The dog man that helps us use's catahoulla dogs also, he might have crossed with some blue lacy blood at some time. They look like a blue over tan catahoulla. I should have the pup 3 months before deer season so I can start with simple training. When deer season opens I will have plenty of deer parts and blood to begin the tracking training. I considered terriers but I like the size of the hound for work off lead in the brush, coyotes and other critters that will come into play. I know I have alot of work ahead to train this dog too be half as good as the dogs we use now. Hopefuly the dog is smarter than me and I get the right dog to train.
