Make, bring, use a survival kit...You may need it!

Here is a word to the wise. It is that time of year again where Mother Nature can open a severe case of whoop ass on us. Don't be like these guys.
Top reason to have a survival kit

They where luckly that one had enough whits to build a fire with the resources available.

If I set one foot in the woods...I bring my survival kit. My fanny pack is made up with items that would save my life in a BAD situation.

Think ahead guys...I don't want to read about you in the newspaper.

Be Safe, Think Safe

Gotta second this. Bad stuff can happen to those that get complacent. This was the first year that I took my 2 sons (7&9) out remote on a moose hunt. They both had their own daypack with a complete set of survival gear in each. Each day I tried to show them something different like how to build a fire or a shelter or navigate with a map & compass, but I especially tried to stress that being properly prepared was half the game. Somewhere along the line in my past military career I learned about the "7 P's" - Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance. They still seem to work for me.

Good reminder topic! Even the "little" afternoon trips can become total nightmares! Be prepared and make sure you know how to operate and fix the equipment you have in the field.
Happy hunting!

Some times I think I bring to much stuff in the field, but it is nice to know that I can spend the night if I have to. I hunt alone most of the time if I can`t get Rimfire to go. So one must pick and choose his battles when he hunts alone. I fell through the ice last year with all that warm wearther we had last year. Even when it is warm out that water is cold.
