Male Vs. Female (Best Dog)

Ok I am jsut getting into being a houndsmen over the last 2 years. I am soon looking to get more coyote hounds and atleast one coon hound. I was just wondering what your opinion is on the best dogs male or female, and why? From all the years of experience you have NOT JSUT ONE DOG, but overall all the dogs you have had. Were the males or females overall better track dogs? I am not really worried about the fight part, though holding a bay would be important. So pretty much if you had to have a pack of all females or males which would it be and why?

Also your best dog ever was it a male or female?

Our best dog is defiantly a female, but that's pretty much all we hunt. Other then our kill dog and the random dogs that hunt with us.

Thanks

Males versus Females is just in a persons preferance some guys don't like females cause they come into heat 2 times a year and some guys dont like males cause sometimes they are to worried bout pissing on every thing before they decide to go hunting. As far as tracking ability in males or females there is no difference one is no better then the other some dogs are just better track dogs then others male or females it is not gender related in no way.

i agree 100%.

I have 3 females,7 males, a few years ago I had 6 females, and 4 males, I have had dogs for years, and the above post are spot on with what I've seen. Males piss on everythin, females come into heat and are a "pia" for ten days, either one can track good, or be worth a wooden nickel, and both can fight their hearts out if they have "it".
So my short answer is "personal preference."

I agree Vargy females really tend to mature faster then males specially right after there first heat cycle they turn into a totally different dog as far as maturity.

Hubby on the other hand might argue that fact.

As far as dogs go, I have had some fantastic dogs both male and female.

I've hand various breeds of bird dogs, coonhounds, bearhounds and beagles and have had much better females than males.

Yeah heat cycles are a PIA but in my experience females mature faster, are smarter and are more eager to please than males.

The point of this whole thread is that "Male or female is personal choice"
My best cathound is a female, She is super smart, good nose and a heart as big as Texas.
My best Decoy dog is a catahoula stud. He is smart, more grit than nose, but can run a cripple on sand at 90 degrees, and won't quit till he passes out. Handles very well, and is good with the family.
Male or female?????? What do ya like? If a female starts faster, and stays good thats great, If a male starts slow, and turns into a star, thats great also.
Easier to train, and starts younger is relative. If I'm looking to by a dog, I try to by the best dog I can at the catch ,or the base of a tree, male or female doesn't matter to me if its a good dog. Just my opinion.

+1 duane mine are the same way i have a outstanding female that locates and gives you 110% my male is no nonscence and will finish by himself.to me it makes no difference just want the total package
