Market for coyotes

You can send the pelts to NAFA but your coyotes aren't worth much. They like the nice prime northern pelts and the hides have to be skun and prepared correctly. I averaged $35 on mine.

Hey DM1075,

Small world. I hunted east of Rochelle for 10 years up until last year when our place was sold. We had both sides of the highway east of town on 190. Leased our property from a man name Robert Jones. Before that we hunted North, South, or West of Brady since the 70's. Where abouts are you in Rochelle? We probably have passed each other on the roads a hundred times.

Can't help you on the hides, fur buyers don't much care for our skinny short haired coyotes. If you know how to skin and tan them, you can make a little off of them at flea markets or even on e-bay I heard.

Hey RayB, I am about halfway off the cutoff from 377 that connects it to Rochelle. My family is there but I am in Kansas now because of the Army. I miss it there tho.

Mainkiller, I will look into that, I can skin and salt hides pretty good, used to do it on the side when I was younger.

prime fur is worth some dough, not nearly as much as a cat. here is some recent fur auction prices. offers of 30 to 40 for Dakota/Montanna. western averages were 25 to 30 for tops (best fur), 15 to 20 for southwestern on the top end. Western yotes bring the better prices. Northeast and southeast are the lowest prices for the fur. You will have to case skin it, flesh it, and dry it on a stretcher. If you have a big hole, you need to sew it also. I sell all my fur. I trap alot also. the fur sales from yotes buy my gear and shells for the season and some extras. If you need info on skinning and fleshing and such, send me a personal message, i will email you the details. Best fur is from dec to feb or early march, depending where you are. then they begin to rub and its not worth much. I can also give you a web page for a taxidermy site that I sell alot of yotes on. They bring 50 to 75 for a real nice colored specimen. Good luck and let the fur fly.

I sent my fur to Groenwalde's in Forreston, Il last week.
I had 8 yotes and a very dull cat.
They called me this morning and offered me 81 dollars for the lot.
The cat was last year fur as were 3 of the yotes. I spent $13.50 on the cheapest mailing charge that USPS has.
I just wanted to get them to China and out of my shop.
I took the money and ran!
2 of the yotes brought $17 each, the female cat with very dull fur and dull spots brought $10.
If I were in it for the money I would be disappointed, but I had more fun and forever memories with my son that can't be sold for any price.

Welcome to Kansas! Thank for serving our country!!

The most I received here this winter for a really good pelt was $15. I need to point out...this was a full-carcass, not skinned.
I stopped selling in January. And unfortunately, I don't remember the fellow's name.(he would stop every 2 wks. @ a farm in Ottawa county.)

You might try contacting the Kansas Furharvesters Assn. I have their address/phone# @ home. I'll post it here for you tomorrow (3/10/06). They do not have a website.

Unless you really enjoy skinning and don't mind driving, there isnt much to be made on coyote right now. I watched streched coyote sell for under $18 a few weeks ago at auction. Maybe that's good money to you, but it wont pay my gas.

Thanks for the help guys. I am not looking to turn a profit, just trying to see if I can maybe get a little more hunting money and realy just do something else with the coyotes instead of letting them lay.
