Anybody got this rifle?I'm thinking of asking santa clause[aka my wife!] for one this Christmas! It's bolt action, looks great! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have 2 of em, great rifles, very accurate, but the Savage with the Accutrigger wasn't available when I bought em, they'll need trigger work or Rifle Basic triggers, I'd consider the Savage if I were buying now.

Man.....planning a little early, aren't you? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I also have a Savage. It's a great little shooter. Don't know much about the Marlin. You might find a little more info at www.rimfirecentral.com

I have the heavy Lam/SS Marlin 17HMR. I put a RifleBasix in it as was suggested by wrongtarget & set it down to 2 1/2lbs. I love that rifle. My wife & I shoot eggs at 109yds during the summer for fun.

what model is the savage? They got one at wal mart for around $175.00 is that it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I may ask for the savage rather than the marlin, but these are real great squirrel guns and little animal guns. You couls shoot a yote fox or bob if it were within 50-75 yards, i would be real sceptical about shooting any farther than that at a preditor. They are plenty accurate out to 100-150 yards but you don't want to wound any animals.

I also have the heavy barrel /laminated stock in ss I like the rifle but have had some problems with extractions of spent cartridges. The Marlin has like a spring metal extractor that does not hold enough tension on the rim of case (I think ???). I'm going to order a new one form them try it if it still does it I'm trading it for a Savage. A friend just bought one and it seems like a better set up plus it has Accutrigger!!

I have the marlin in stainless with laminate stock, like it very much. Worked on the trigger a bit myself, made it much better. It is very accurate, have no problems at all with it. I have shot alot of squirrels with it and varmints around the house. With a good scope it is hard to miss anything you shoot at.

I'd go Marlin and never look back. I bought a Marlin 17v Blued HB, first it was a great shooting rifle the trigger was horrible but a very accurate gun. I sold that one to buy a ruger 77/17 blued sporter barrel, this one had a better trigger but was not as accurate. So I sold the Ruger to buy a Savage stainless bull barrel with the thunbhole stock, 17btvs? or what ever the model # is.

So after I went through all 3 rifles, the Marlin was most accurate, Ruger was nicest looking/feeling, Savage had the nicest trigger(accutrigger).

Someday I'm sure that I buy another Marlin 917v.

I had a Marlin 17HMR in stainless with bull barrel and laminated stock... It was a great rifle until I got my hands on my Savage .204 with the accu-trigger...

If you can get a Savage for $175, tell the wife Christmas is really early this year... you won't be sorry... She might 'cause you will be out shooting it all the time.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif See if she would go for Valentine's Day, or Easter...??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If your going to do it, do it right. Sped a little extra on get a CZ Varmint. They are many times nicer than a savage. The Marlin would be a way distant second choice!
