I have the Marlin 882SS 22mag and I love it. I bought a nice brown laminate stock for it and put a sweet 3-9 on it and it is great - It is probably my favorite small game hunting rifle. I like the Win Supremes 34g the best. I'm not a paper shooter so I can't really tell you what shoots the best but I know what works well for my hunting.
I have never been able to shoot a 22mag as accurately as a 22lr so I don't know what you are expecting but mine does shoot good (you can hit a starling at 100 yards)… that is all I really need.

I have a 882 SSV (synthetic SS Bull barrel).

Did not like the trigger so I bought and installed the Rifle Basix. Very glad I did also.

I don't consider the super light weight bullets to be tack drivers in .22 Mag. This especially been my experience at ranges beyond 65 yds.

For super accuracy, my money goes with 40 to 50 gr. Hp.

One suggestion is to buy the book from Beartooth Bullets. There is a short section on fire lapping .22 rimfire (including magies) It is good.

Three 44s

I have a 25MN basicaly had a smith do a trigger job - shoots great. Marlins micro-grove rifling seems to favor the supremes 34gr up to the 40 grain ammo. Oddly it shoots better once the barrel is a bit fouled, not dirty, but after a cleaning I typicaly fire a 1/2 dozen rounds and then she's ready for hunting.
I realy like this rifle, its been very dependable. Done tons of hunting with it, squirrel, possum, racoon, fox, take it scouting, taught my kids to shoot with it. I've tried lots of different ammo. My three favorites are the Supremes, 34gr., W/super-x 40 gr jhp, & the Rem* 40 gr psp. The Rem* psp while accurate does not seem to perform like a typical sp. This is rimfire after all. What I mean is I haven't found it to expand like any 22wmr hp or fmj. But hey, since this is 22mag you can use that to your advantage because (imho) its less destructive on small game. The super-x jhp is a workhorse, plain and simple. For varmint control you may be hard pressed to find something better in 22wmr.

From left -to- right
Supreme 34 gr hp
Remington 40 gr soft point
Winchester 40 gr jhp
All these were shot into 6" of wet phone books @ 50 yards and pulled.
Rem* - CCI now loads Rem 22wmr ammo, as well as Federal 22wmr.
Winchester has also moved their rimfire production. Not sure if this has hit the shelves yet but if I may offer one peice of advice; don't waist your time with the Dynapoints*.
Dynapoints* - aka Dynaturds, crapp welfare ammo.

On a follow-up note;
Alot of 22wmr shooters like the v-max, it is a 33 grain round and quite accurate, affective, & maybe a little more expensive /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Good stuff, I don't shoot it just because it's poi would make me re-zero. CCI loads this for Rem to, which is fine. But if you hear someone call it a bt, it is not, never has been and never will be being rimfire.
Good luck n` good shootin'

My 882 shoots the remington premiers very well. CCI stuff it hates. Federal 50 grainers are good shooters thru it as well. About the only thing I haven't tried were the winchesters. And yes mine like to shoot dirty. If I give it a good cleaning, it takes a while to settle back down.

My 883 by far shoots the Winchester Super-X 40gr (gray box) the best. All the CCI stuff are fliers in this rifle (which sucks because I'm a CCI fan in .22lr).

It too shoots better lightly fouled.

Get the trigger lightened and shoot the heck out of it! There pretty decent guns for the money.

Yeah! Exactly what Coleridge said also applies to my Savage 93FSS. I wish it had the adjustable trigger that your 9-series Marlin has.

me!
