Marlin 39A or CZ 452?

cz all the way ! 453 if you can afford it ! open sites try the lux or scout if u want a scope get an american. Lux 452 22lr is going to be my next long gun purchase for bunny bustin.

Two completely different rifles. Both are capable of all the accuracy needed for a 22 LR. But that is where the comparison's end.

I have a bunch of different 22 LR's. And I like them all. However the most enjoyable 22 I have is my lever action 22. It is also my go to squirrel rifle with open sights. The rifle is fun and fast. The CZ is also a great rifle, however when I have them both sitting side by side on the shooting bench at the range. Everyone picks up the lever action to shoot. Tom.

To be really fair to yourself you need the marlin and cz 453 with a set trigger.I like the varmint model on the cz.

They really are two completely different rifles. I like them both, but I would grab a Marlin M39A in a heartbeat. I don't know, but something feels bad about the survival of that rifle before Remington/Marlin screw around with the design or materials and end of botching a classic rifle. They'll cut corners somewhere and substitute poly/plastic or pot metal somewhere and FUBAR the classic, classy, and reliable old walnut and blued steel design. I have two, a M39A and a Mountie and wouldn't part with them for a pile of other firearms. Both of mine are older pre-safety guns and I am glad of that. The 39A with an aperture sight is a natural in the field and has accounted for a slew of rabbits and squirrels. It has the perfect balance and hang for field shooting. Working that petite little steel action "snick - snick" is somehow special and would be sadly missed by me if I didn't have my M39's.

+1

The Model 39 has a lot of nostalgia, so if you identify with that, get the 39.

CZ 452 or 453. If you get a good deal on a 452, buy it and get one of Eric Brooks' trigger kits for it. Reasonably priced and easy to install. No cutting or drilling. Makes a Hugh improvement on the stock trigger. Mine breaks at a VERY crisp 3 pounds with zero creep.

I would definitely get the CZ. I like a 77/22 better but my CZ will out shoot it every time. Go to rimefirecentral.com and you can get informed about every rimfire by brand and model.452 or 453 you will not be disapointed.

Get the marlin. The CZ is just another rifle, the Marlin is a part of firearm history.Get a single six to go along with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Wonder how many millions of the 39A's have been made by now. Cant remember right off, but it seems like it was 1.8 when I bought mine back in the early 80's.

DO NOT buy a brand new Marlin 39A, lots of issues with the new models with the rebounding hammer. Terrible quality control lately.

Pick up a nice used one without rebounding hammer.

I have.22's made by CZ, Remington, two or three by Marlin, and a few Rugers, but my favorite is my 39A. My Dad bought the gun new in 1956, and it was the first "real" gun I ever shot. It was the first gun my Son ever shot, and I expect it will be the first one his kids ever shoot as well. I can't tell you how many jack rabbits, frogs, and squirrels I have taken with it. Except for a replacement rear sight, it is nearly as it came from the factory. I would purchase another one any time before any of the others if I felt I needed another .22.
Go with the Marlin. You won't be sorry
John
